Hi,
We are planning an interrail trip in the summer and I have been following the forum with interest regarding how to travel from Milan - Venice - Ljubljana. Most of my questions have been answered, but I have one or two more:
1. We want to travel with regional trains (avoiding supplements) and trenitalia doesn't display any on its website for the milan - venice route. What is the earliest regional train and how can I find all the information about the regional trains
2. We'd like a stopover in Venice of at least 3 or 4 hours before going on to Ljubljana. What time is the last (logical) connection from Venice to Ljubljana via Gorizia?
3. If we chose to take the night train that arrives in Ljubljana at 1.40am, how would this affect our travel days? The aim is to only use one travel day for the entire journey. We decided not to stay in Venice as accomodation looks far too expensive there.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Chris

Hi Chris.
1) Maybe you searched for a travel date after the 12th of June. As there is the small change in the European train schedules and it seems that they aren't updated for now by the Italian railway.
I use this schedule planer to find connections:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Example connection:
Milano Centrale dep: 0725 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Venezia Santa Lucia dep: 1056
2) For this route (on Sunday evening you have a direct train - check the schedules):
https://rail.cc/en/venice-ljubljana-train/f3664
Venezia Santa Lucia dep: 1511 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Monfalcone arr: 1652
Monfalcone dep: 1719 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Gorizia Centrale arr: 1739
OR if you want to risk a bit more (use a taxi to cross the border):
Venezia Santa Lucia dep: 1604 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Gorizia Centrale arr: 1819
BORDER CROSSING
Nova Gorica dep: 1847 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Sezana arr: 1946
Sezana dep: 1950 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Divaca arr: 2000
Divaca dep: 2010 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Ljubljana arr: 2149
3) If you travel Milano - Venice - Ljubljana using the night train arriving 0140h in Ljubljana, you will need TWO travel days. Do the day trip, it is cheaper in total.
Or try to get a cheap ticket for the part mignight-0140h.
Peter :)
