I have read lots of threads on this topic and tried to find a suitable journey through the booker but cannot find anything for 8th August Venezia santa lucia - Nice Ville. We are flexible on changes and times, as long as there isn't too much of a wait between trains (most I have found require a change at night and the next train is not until the following morning) any help would be really appreciated! :D x

Hi Greta.
There is the small change in the European train schedules on the 12th of June. Therefore not all connections are listed for connections later than this date. Use for example a date of this week to plan.
Examples:
A
Venezia Santa Lucia dep: 0515 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Milano Centrale arr: 0845
Milano Centrale dep: 0905 | IC train - free of reservation fees. But reservation recommended for EUR 3 (available online)
Ventimiglia arr: 1307
Ventimiglia dep: 1317 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Nice Ville arr: 1406
B
Venezia Santa Lucia dep: 1103 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Milano Centrale arr: 1435
Milano Centrale dep: 1505 | IC train - free of reservation fees. But reservation recommended for EUR 3 (available online)
Ventimiglia arr: 1907
Ventimiglia dep: 1917 | Regional train - free of extra fees
Nice Ville arr: 2005
Of course there are much more connections. I selected these ones on which you don't have to pay extra for reservations.

Thanks so much! I've been trying to plan my trip through this fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en?L=vs_inputgen& site but do you know of a better one as the journey you planned for me hasn't come up on here :) also should I call up to reserve trains if they say reservation needed?
sorry for all the questions - first timer! :os

There is the one mentioned on the forums - https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
I use the deutch bahn one personally but that is probably using the same data as the one you linked to

Using these connections I gave you above do not require a reservation!
There are other connections available where you will have to pay for reservations, but not worth to use. You won't save a lot of time, only spent money for nothing.

Ok yep that's the one I've been using, but I can't seem to avoid trains with reservations whilst still getting my journey right, I'll have another look.
Thanks :D

The schedule planers available sometimes shows train requires reservation or something like that.
But there is NO special InterRail schedule planer available.
You always have to do it this way:
1) Select the route you want to travel: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
2) Compare it to the supplements: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
3) Check the country topics for details and reservation-free connections (like this topic for example): https://rail.cc/en/countries
Often you won't find the connections free of reservation fees on the first search... :)
