Hi,

I was wondering if there are trains readily available from Vienna to Salzburg? And also if there are direct trains from Salzburg to Munich?
thanks alot!

p.s.
if i have a Rail Pass is it possible for me to use it as much as i can within one country? for example, vienna - salzburg or Munich - Numberg - Frankfurt?
thanks again!

Hi Eunice.

Yes. There are frequent trains running on this route.
Use the schedule planer (but it is possible that not all trains are listed after 12th June - there is the small European change in the train schedules - but connections won't change a lot).
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

All trains on these routes are free of any extra fees (reservations or supplements), except night trains which aren't worth to use here. Just jump in if you travel with a rail pass.

Use them as often as you want.
On which rail pass you will travel. On a One Country Pass Austria and a One Country Pass Germany... or on an Global InterRail Pass?

If you want I can give you some sample connections.

Peter :)

Hi Eunice.
Don't buy the 1-month-pass.
But the cheap 5 travel days in a period of 10 days InterRail Pass (5 in 10).
And do some routes by normal tickets without InterRail. IT will be cheaper.
For example Bratislava-Vienna (~EUR 10).
Salzburg-Munich (starting from ~EUR 19).

I don't know where you are from, but if you come by plane, starting in Berlin, do it this way with the 5 in 10:

Stay some days in Berlin, then lets start with your InterRail Pass:
Travel day (TD) 1: Berlin-Prague
TD 2: Prague-Bratislava
Bratislava-Vienna: normal ticket
TD 3: Vienna-Salzburg
Salzburg-Munich: normal ticket
TD 4: Munich-Nürnberg
TD 5: Nürnberg-Frankfurt

If you want to travel a bit more, I recommend you the cities of Krakow and Budapest which are close to your route.

Also read the step by step guide which will explain you InterRail:

Peter :)

P.S.: if you do not have your country of residence in Europe, you will have to travel by an EURAIL ticket. Let me know and I will find the best and cheapest solution for you. You said 2 weeks and you want to be fixed on Germany and Austria? Your budget? :)

hei peter,

Thanks again!
yes, i have read the guide 3x already.=P

I'm currently living in The Netherlands, more than 6mos now..
I was actually thinking of doing Krakow and Budapest as well and yes i have 2 weeks, it's not really my intention to be fixed on Germany and Austria, it just so happens that when i looked into the map they were on the way back to Amsterdam =)
with regards to the budget, I'm on couchsurfing so I'll just be looking for my host. But, do you think it's gonna cost a lot? what is the cost range i'm looking into here? [im planning to travel alone, do you think its safe?]

Hi Eunice.
Yes, Europe is save. Simply behave like you do it in Amsterdam. :)
If travelling on couchsurfing, you will already save a lot of money.
You can travel the whole route you planed without supplements (except you want to add a night train - for example when including Krakow, Budapest). So you only have to pay the ticket.
Mmmh... if you start in Amsterdam, you will need your ticket from the first day. Think about the 10 in 22 days - InterRail Global Pass. Even if you won't need the period of 22 days.
It's really hard to say - if doing all these cities like that or the smaller trip like you proposed. It's your decision. ;)

Amsterdam-Berlin
Berlin-Prague
Prague-Krakow
Krakow-Budapest
Budapest-Vienna:
Vienna-Munich
Munich-Amsterdam: direct night train
