If you've booked by Hostelworld rail.shop/hostelworld or similar before, you know you'll have paid a 10% non refundable deposit before paying anything else until you check in.

However, in spite of this, has anyone ever had the situation of someone insisting on the ENTIRE cost of your stay, despite the fact 10% had already been cleared? I got to Rome in mid January this year, and stayed at a hostel (that's actually 2 hostels...) not far from Termini station. Not bad price, 10 euro a night, can't complain (although it was a rubbish hostel), and the guy who checked me insisted on paying the full price, in spite of having seen my reservation clearly showing the breakdown of costs!

Needless to say, one wasn't amused, especially when he said he had no change on him...thankfully, I pestered him for the 2 euros (not a lot, I know, but, it's principle at the end of the day!) and got it back. Anyone else ever had such a situation?

Hi!

No, no troubles like this at all. However, since speaking of Rome where I was too this February (in Pop Inn Hostel just opposite Termini) I was charged an additional 2€ per night tourist tax which was introduced this year (at least the receptionist told me that as well a document on the wall) - maybe he wanted you to pay for this tax which is not listed on Hostelworld :?:
