Bus services in Greece

Athens - Thessaloniki - Patras
As the train service in Greece is currently very limited, it is better to plan your travels using a bus. Bus travel in Greece isn't very expensive.

The biggest Greece bus company is KTEL.

Start with this website: http://ktelbus.com/?module=default&pages_id=15&lang=en
Select the region from where you want to start traveling.

Athens: http://www.ktelattikis.gr
Thessaloniki: http://www.ktel-thes.gr
Patras: http://achaiaktel.gr

Bus Athens to Thessaloniki and return:
Travel time: 6:30h
Frequent service: departures every one or two hours - also during the night.
One-way ticket: ~ EUR 45
Return ticket: ~ EUR 65

Athens-Thessaloniki: http://www.ktel-thes.gr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=95&lang=en
Thessaloniki-Athens: http://www.ktel-thes.gr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=96&lang=en

 You don't have to pre-book your ticket - I think you even can't?! Pay at the bus terminal before the bus departure or directly in the bus. If you are there 30 minutes before departure you should be fine to find a seat.

Hey Peter, and thanks for all the info!
So if there's a Skopje-Thessaloniki train once a day, can I assume there's one on the opposite direction too nowadays??? Could find any solid info about it (at least not in English..)

I'm taking the ferry from Santorini to Athens within one hour from now, and from there supposed to go straight to Skopje - and for HOURS I can't find out how to do it... :( ( Keep hearing/reading contradicting things..

thanks a lot in advance
The confused traveller

Hi Julies.
Mmmmh... sorry. I really don't have any information about it.
But I suppose (it's my personal experience), you will have the option to continue in any way...

Ok, I hoped you know about Thessaloniki-Skopje since you wrote about Skopje-Thess' a few days ago, but who knows, maybe things have been changed since then too... :-S
Guess i'll just trust my luck (and bring a large sandwiches equipment) :) )

Peter, it hink you are misled by some unadapted false routeplanner. There are at the mo NO trains beyond the border in GR-the MAC-train runs till border station, then it is find your own way. (gevgelija, I think).
Same applies to route from Sofia (Kulata).
There may be local KTEL buses from these places to Thess. try to google for KTEL-[Thes]salonik or check via busstation.net. Save that trouble and get a direct bus from Skopje or Sofia-will not cost that much more.
