Brussel -Rotterdam 28-Jul
Rotterdam 28/Jul-29/Jul
Rotterdam - Amsterdam 29-Jul
Amsterdam 29/Jul-2/Aug
Amsterdam - London 2-Aug
I need to ask for your advices on some matters:
1/ Should I buy 1 month pass or 22 days pass?
I lives in London now, I wonder if the interail pass will cover the route Amsterdam- London. The second thing is that I don't know if the pass cover the train run in one city (Rome or Amsterdam, for example).
If they don't cover both of these, I will decide to buy 22 days pass from 10/Jul to 22/Jul (First depature from Rome and last stop in Amsterdam).
2/ Second question, I want to take train from Le Spezia to Nice, is that going via Genova is the only shortest and convenient way?
3/ Bacerlona to Paris: How much will I need to pay for the night train? I'm considering between night train and day train. Appreciate if you can advise the pros and cons of each.
4/ Lastly, is there any differnce between booking earlier and later for interrail pass? I would also appreciate if you have any input for my itinerary.
Many thanks,
Hong

Hi Hong.
1) The 1 month pass is more relaxing. I would recommend it if you have the time and the money!
The best way for Amsterdam-London is by ferry:
https://rail.cc/en/ferry-netherlands-england/f1659
https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-london-train/f3990
Using the Eurostar via Paris is too expensive.
Rome/Amsterdam: you are talking about the public transportation in the cities? They are not covered by InterRail. But you will find cheap day-tickets. And most points are easy reachable simply by foot.
2) Use the schedule planer, it will answer your question:
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
Some will stop there, some pass trough. But it is possible to travel in the morning to Genoa and in the evening to continue. Example (with supplement free trains):
La Spezia Centrale dep: 0712
Genova Piazza Principe arr: 0923
Genova Piazza Principe dep: 1717
Ventimiglia arr: 2007
Ventimiglia dep: 2104
Nice Ville: 22xx (~ 1 hour later)
3) You have different options. I recommend to use a French night train. Cross the Pyrenees by Petit Train Jaune. It is amazing. All details here:
https://rail.cc/en/barcelona-paris-day-train/f5503
https://rail.cc/en/barcelona-paris-night-train/f1040
https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
4) No difference if booking earlyer. I recommend to order 3 to 4 weeks before departure. Select standard mail service and you have free delivery.
You get your official InterRail pass to the official prices directly at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
With your purchase you support our work , for example this answer. Thank you.

Hello Peter,
Just got some more questions, hope that you can help.
I just realized that I don't need to pay for 1month travel card because I will actually travel 10days out of 22 days as my previous schedule. Don't know if you find that ok ( I want to squeeze the cost as little as possible). Some questions here are:
- If I purchase the 10days of out 20 days rail card, can I use the rail card serveral times per day?
- In case I take the night train from Bacerlona - Paris, how many days will they count in my rail card?
- I read your link here (https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route) about how to avoid surcharges, but they are all for night train, is there any specific link for day train? Also, is there any link that I can
- Can you advise the way to look at the train timetable, I've got the update table from the website ** but it seems to have the difference between them. For instance, the pdf timetable mentions the route Rome- Venice using AVI train with Reservation. When I check online, only ES train is available. And I think both of them incur surcharges, have you got any idea to avoid this surcharge?
Appreciate your help.
Tks,
Hong.

Hi Hong.
Of course it is good to save money. And if the 10 in 22 fit your needs, then it's perfect! :)
To your questions:
1) You can use the pass as often as you want per travel day. Cross as much borders as you want. One travel day is from 00:01h until 23:59h at night.
There is a special nice rule for overnight travel: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
2) It is one travel day as for the rule mentioned above.
But think about NOT using the direct night train. There are much cheaper options. For example crossing the Pyrenees mountains and then continuing by French Corail night train. Amazing nature. See links:
https://rail.cc/en/barcelona-paris-night-train/f1040
https://rail.cc/en/barcelona-paris-day-train/f5503
https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/
3) The schedules are for night AND day trains.
4) Don't use a PDF file for train schedules! It is never up to date. By the way I removed the link to your mentioned website as we do not work together with them in any way.
Example for Rome-Venice: https://rail.cc/en/rome-venice-train/f6142
And if you want to support us, don't forget to buy at our partner. ;)

Thank Peter for your answer.
Adding to your number 4 answer, I suppose that the best way to plan the schedule is to use your interactive route planner which you mentioned here?
https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
And yes, I will be surely your customer :)
Thanks,
Hong

In my opinion it is the best route planer. Sure there are other ones... but you will be fine with the mentioned one. :)

Hello Peter,
I have tried to use the above link to plan the route from Rome-Venice but it seemed that there was only one option with EuroNight train from 19:05. I find this a little bit confused because I found another thread that you mention here with several options: https://rail.cc/en/rome-venice-train/f6142.
I'm looking for option to depart around 13:45, I remember that ES has train at that time when I found the route last time, but I couldn't see any option like that this time, and I was also hopeless to find the local train options here.
Look forward to your advice.
Cheers,
Hong

Hi Hong.
Which date are you looking for. A date after the 12th of June?
At this date there is a small change in the European train schedules - not a big thing. It is every year the same and no real big changes.
But the schedules are often missing until short time before this date. :o
Plan with the date of tomorrow for example to find connections.

Hi Peter,
The date is 10/ Jul (Sunday), then do you suggest that I should use the same Sunday for a different week? i.e. 15/May?
If so, there is a risk that the schedule is not correct, isn't it?
Thanks,
Hong

Exactly. Use the 15th May instead of the 10th July.
Of course the a is a risk that the schedules will change. But it is less than 5%. So not a real risk!! :)

Hi Peter,
Can you give me the advice to have cheap and shortest ways on some routes? Most of them have surcharge now.
- Nice - Barcelona
- Paris- Brussel
-Brussel - Rotterdam
- Rotterdam-Amsterdam.
Btw, just want to confirm again, if I take night train, does that mean that one my rail pass they will count 2 days?
Also, can you give some tips on how to understand the code of each train, for instance IC 666 and track the respective website to do the reservation?
Many thanks,
Hong.

Hi Hong.
The rule for night trains is here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
Nice - Barcelona: https://rail.cc/en/nice-marseilles-barcelona-train/f3420
Have a look on the connection using the Petit Train Jaune. Amazing!
https://rail.cc/en/petit-train-jaune-latour-de-carol/f1343
Paris- Brussel: https://rail.cc/en/paris-brussels-bruxelles-train/f3992
Brussel - Rotterdam: free IC connection
Rotterdam-Amsterdam: free IC connection
For the connections in Benelux, simply use the schedule planer and select without HST (so the HighSpeedTrain THALYS won't be listed there). You have a lot of frequent IC connections which are free of surcharge.
