Hi there,

I am planing a trip in August for 14 days. It is my first interrail trip and Í am travelling alone. I am 20 and female.

I want to visit Amsterdam- Rotterdam- Antwerpen- Gent- Brügge and Brussels. My plan is to go camping in Amsterdam and I also want to book a hostel in Brussels.

Is it also necessary to book already hostels for the other cities or is it better to book them just two days in advance. I want to be flexible ( maybe my plans will change during the trip), but I am afraid to arrive at the cities without a place to sleep, because the hostels wont have a free bed anymore.
Since I am planing to camp in Amsterdam, I will take a tent with me. Are there other campinggrounds in the cities I want to visit, which are close to the central station?

Thanks for help :)

Hi!

If you are taking a tent with you, I would recommend to completely go with camping instead of hostels:

While in Belgium, you could make a basecamp at a single campsite. We did so in 2006, stayed several nights in Gent and visited Antwerpen, Brugge, Oostende, Bruxelles and of course Gent itself. The campsite in Gent is a little bit out of town but has good connections with bus.
The other option would be to make this basecamp in Bruxelles where the campsite is more or less in the city centre. It is very nice in a church's backyard. If you need more info just let me know.

Same for the Netherlands. We stayed in Rotterdam and visited Rotterdam itself as well as Den Haag and Hook van Holland.

Thanks for the info!

Do I have to do a reservation for the campingsites before or can I just go there. I will do my trip in August, maybe the campingsites are crowded and dont have space anymore?
Can you give me the name of the campingsite in Bruxelles? That would be great.

I still think I will also go into one or two hostels during my trip. I have noticed that if I want to book a hostel I need to have a credit card. I dont have one.
Is it really necessary to have a credit card during my trip to book hostel 2 or 3 days in advance?
If I need one I could buy myself a prepaid credit card. Do you know If hostels accept those prepaid credit cards?

Sorry for the amount of questions.

Hi.

Here is a topic of Flow about the camp sites: https://rail.cc/en/camping-brussels-amsterdam/f4321
If you want to book hostels in advance online, then you will need a credit card. As much as I know, Prepaid Credit Cards are accepted.

Other solution is to phone the hostels and ask for a reservation - but then it might happen when arriving late one day, your bed is already given to another traveller.

For camp sites it is the same: the best is to phone them some days in advance.

Peter :)
