hi,
I`m going on Interrail for the first time in may-june sometimes. I`m planning one country pass. I`m living in Sweden, so I`m planning taking the ferry to Sassnitz. And from there I want a roundtrip in Germany.
But I have three matters that count for me.
I will avoid the big cities.
I will travel to smaller cozy cities that are showing charm and local culture.
I love food, german beer, wine, and the good life.
My generally travel plan is to go from Sassnitz to Berchtesgaden via the eastern part of Germany, spend some days there, before I return via the west part. Then I will go through Mosel, with its cozy cities. And then continue up to the northern part.
By the moment I`m not sure how many days I will spend, maybe 10 days, maybe 15 days.
I`m planning sleep in zimmer frei or gasthauses without to make any reservations in advance.
Is that a good plan?
What prices must I estimate?
If anyone can give a nice travel route and propose nice cozy cities to visit, I would really appreciate it.
Also I would like if someone have proposes in what cities I MUST have a stopover and sleep and spend a day or two.
Thanks in advance for all help!
Regards

Hi Randy!
A possible route could be: Sassnitz - Stralsund - Dresden (I know it's a big city but I think it is really nice; and it is close to the beautiful Elbtal) - Zwickau - Bayreuth - Berchtesgaden. Or go via the Harz area (Quedlinburg!).
On the way back maybe travel along the Bodensee (Konstanz), then through the Schwarzwald (Freudenstadt/Baiersbronn) up to the Pfalz (maybe Peter can give you a tip about that area ;) ). Then via Trier to the Mosel valley. I recommend to use the line from Bullay to Traben-Trarbach. :)
Then, you could travel through the Rhein valley, on the left side down to Mainz, then on the right side up again to Koblenz, continuing via the Nahetal to Wetzlar/Gießen and then back towards Sweden.
