Hi!

We're taking a train from Venice to Bled in Slovenia the 24th of May, and have found connections using the route planner and DB Bahn.
One problem though, on all the routes I could find there was a transfer at some point?

The one below for example, it says that there is transfer of a 40 min onward journey by bus or taxi from Gorizia Centrale to Nova Gorica.

The route looks like this:

Venezia Mestre 07.31 - Gorizia Centrale 10.02: Train R2826
Gorizia Centrale - Nova Gorica, Transfer, 40 min onward journey by bus or taxi
Nova Gorica 11.15 - Bled Jezero 13.10: Train R4210

What does this onward transfer mean? Is it included on the InterRail pass (are the transfer buses free), and do these buses connect with the trains?

I found one connection which seemed better:

Venezia Mestre stazione(Viale Stazione) dep 09:40 Bus 830 ÖBB-Intercitybus (Subject to compulsory reservation)
Villach Hbf (Bussteige 1-4) arr 12:50

walk 5 min. Adjust the transfer time

Villach Hbf Tu, 24.05.11 dep 12:56 3B EC 211 Eurocity (Non-smoker train, Bordrestaurant, parent-and-children compartment)
Lesce Bled Tu, 24.05.11 arr 13:50

Does this connection mean that there is no other transfer like on the other one, but arrives at Lesce Bled instead of Bled Jezero?
And are the InterRail passes valid on the ÖBB Intercitybuses?

Thanks for your help!

Hi!

Gorizia and Nova Gorica are twin towns on the Italian/Slovenian border. Unfortunately there are no through trains, so you have to transfer between both stations. This is mentioned on the travel planner as you have found out. The transfer is not included in InterRail! However, there should be a bus running that wont cost much. If you want to you can also walk through the city, it is ~3,4km and will take roughly 45 minutes - so enough time to get your connecting train.

I would not recommend the other connection. The connecting time in Villach is really short...I have to experience how punctual the buses are. I would not risk that, moreover the bus (you can use it with InterRail) has a compulsory reservation of 7€.
Lesce Bled is the station on the Villach - Ljubljana main line whereas Bled Jezero is on the branch line from Jesenice to Nova Gorica. Both are not directly in the town, have a look at this topic: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/ljubljana-villach-venice-bus-train/f3647
Anyway, I would recommend to go via Nova Gorica: You dont need a reservation, can have a short look around and Goricia and the route is very nice, especially from Nova Gorica to Bled Jezero.

How much time do you reccomend in Bled? I was think to do that route from Venice - Gorizia - Nova Gorica - Bled
but from what I've seen that gets me in Bled at lunch time about 13h.

And I wasn't planning on staying there in Bled, so one afternoon is enough?

Then I plan to go to Zagreb but haven't seen that yet because my original didn't include Bled, I'm trying to include it now...

Any help?

Yeah, one afternoon would be enough - although you might have troubles with your luggage as there probably wont be any lockers at either Beld Jezero or Lesce Bled stations and both stations are a fair bit away from the lake and town.

Flo,
I already asked this in a new post in Slovenia because more people could find it I think.
But since you probably are watching this one I'm asking here too:
I found a night train from Munich to Zagreb that stops in Bled at arround 5am.
I was thinking about taking that. But that means sleeping in the train station at Bled and really be without options for the bags in Bled... That's bad right?

(You can answer in the other topic in Slovenia because maybe more people with the same question can have it answered. I think I called it Where to put your bags in Bled or something like that.

Thanks Flow.

Sorry, I have more questions on this topic.
There's any way to make reservations for this route?

Venice - Gorizia
Gorizia - Nova Gorica (bus - probably not right?)
Nova Gorica - Bled Jezero (https://rail.cc/en/nova-gorica-jesenice/slovenia/733)

Can't reserve it on both train rides on the railcc shop...
Really wanted to have at least the Nova Gorica - Bled Jezero reserved because I want to go in this schedule: 11h15-13h27 and not later...

It can be donne?

You cant get reservations for these trains - regional trains usually cannot be reserved. :)
