Hello,
We are a group of 12 adults travelling from Germany through Switzerland and then Venice in early June. We have our tickets reserved with the Swiss rail for our Lucerne-Locarno segments. I was planning on purchasing the Locarno-Venice segment from Italy's rail. However, they have told me that they can not do cross-border tickets. I have contacted the Swiss rail asking if they add that segment to our current reservation. I have not heard from them plus the website said they cannot do group cross border tickets. SO, what should I do? I would like to have the tickets reserved and purchased (if possible) before we leave for Europe next month. Should we just purchase our ticket from Switzerland that would take us to the border? Which city would this be? Should we purchase the Italy portion from Italy's group department? Which city would this segment begin? Thanks very much for your help!!!!

Hi Richard!
If you cant get a group ticket for the whole distance (I dont why it doesnt work neither with SBB nor with Trenitalia...) I would get tickets for Milano - Venezia first - you can do so online at trenitalia.com - note that you can buy a maximum of 5 tickets at once online, but as soon as you have them you can buy another 5 tickets and enter the seat/coach numbers of the tickets already purchased in order that your whole group sits togehter. However, I havent tried this yet so cant give you any tips.
For the remainder, Locarno - Milano you can go with regional trains via Giubiasco and Chiasso. Attention, you then will arrive at Milano Porta Garibaldi and have to change to Milano Centrale to proceed to Venezia.
The border station is Chiasso.
