Hi there,
A friend and I are going on our 1st Inter-Rail this July so could someone please tell us what the underground systems (if any) are like in the following destinations we are visiting this July, also any advice on which ticket to buy as the best value
for money since we're staying in each place 2/3 days and would prefer to buy one ticket for that whole time period.

Brussels
Amsterdam
Berlin
Prague
Bratislava
Vienna
Budapest
Belgrade
Ljubljana
Bern
Paris

MANY MANY THANKS :) LOVE THE FORUM!

Hi there,

some short info:

Bruxelles: The centre is not widespread you will be fine on foot; only to get to Atomium think about taking metro/tram, in this case single tickets should be cheapest
Adam: No need to use public transport as long as you dont stay at a campsite
Berlin: You can use the S-Bahn system with the InterRail ticket, but not U-Bahn, tram or bus; whenever I was in Berlin I usually walked or took S-Bahn, only seldom used metro. If you have to use metro/tram/bus a lot a day card or a tourist pass might be worth their money
Praha: All major sites can be reached by foot; metro/tram is rather cheap in case you want to relax a little, day tickets are ~4€
Bratislava: Like Praha
Budapest: Like Praha
Belgrade, Ljubljana: Dont know.. ;)
Bern: Public transport is expensive in Switzerland so I'd recommend to walk, the city isnot that big...
Paris: Usually a carnet is the best option (10 single trips for metro/bus/tram) it is ~12€ On weekends you can have a day ticket for ~3€

Ljubljana is so small there's no point in using public transport. Most places in Belgrade can be reached on foot, but public tranport is cheap if you want to use it

if you are in paris in the summer the hire bike scheme is 1 Euro a day as long as each journey is less than 1/2 an hour - 1/2 hour to 1 hour is only 1 euro anyway

for METRO=underground etc. systems-these are always part of some city-wide transportation, with buses/trams etc, you can find details on:
urbanrail.net
for other systems (if you really want that-often this is only time-waste): find links on busstation.net
