Hi guys! Don't know yet if this will be part of an interrail trip, but do you got any tips about this route?

Munich - (Venice -) Rome

Would it be possible to make a short stop in Venice, or would we save much time by going directly from Munich to Rome? :)

Thanks,
Bjørn Erik

By the way, the trip would probably be in the beginning of may. Also, do you know anything about train costs?

Hi,

There are direct night trains to Venice and Roma from München:
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/munich-zagreb-en-499/151
:arr: https://rail.cc/en/munich-rome-night-train/f2872

Without InterRail, prices start at around 100 for a regular ticket (seat), cheaper pre-booked tickets can be ~50€. With InterRail you pay 9€ for a seat reservation, 25€ for a 6bed couchette.

During the day it makes no sense to travel via Venezia but you could take the night train to go there and then go to Roma in the evening. Attention, the fast trains within Italy require a 10€ reservation when travelling with InterRail, regular tickets start at ~50€ when booked in advance.
