...or to say it in detail: Porto - Lisboa - Sevilla - Valencia - Barcelona - San Sebastian - Bordeaux - Paris - Bruxelles - Amsterdam - Straßbourg
We plan to buy the flexible ticket for 22 days (309 Euro) after having flewn from Karlsruhe to Porto. That should be a doable route for a little less than one month, shouldn't it?! We consider to plan with 50-100 euro more for reservations in high-speed-trains, because we want to enable a trip to more cities in less time. Is that a senseful calculation or will it be more expensive?
I would like some feedback and suggestions please. I am open to changing or modifing.
The trip from Lisboa to Sevilla only seems to be possible by a night train called HOT? Do you know how expensive a reservation is?
AND: Do you have some exclusive information about great places we should add to our journey?
Yours

Hi Jannis!
First we have to clear what kind of pass you intend to use:
- 22 day continuous: 319€
- 10 travel days in 22 days: 249€
Having a look at your trip I count 10 travel days so you could use the cheaper option.
Supplements:
4€ IC Porto - Lisboa (8€ for the slightly faster AP)
LIsboa - Sevilla: First with the HOT :arr: https://rail.cc/en/train/lisbon-to-madrid to Madrid then with AVE (10€) to Sevilla
Sevilla - Valencia: 6,50€ for the direct ARCO, 2x10€ when going with AVE trains via Madrid
Valencia - BCN: 6,50€
BCN - San Sebastian: 6,50€
San Sebastian - Bordeaux: free
Bordeaux - Paris: 6€ TGV
Paris - Bruxelles: Direct Thalys is overly expensive, ~27€ or so; you can go to Lille with a TGV and change there to free trains towards Bruxelles; or slowest alternative with free trains via Amiens and Lille
Bruxelles - Amsterdam: Avoid the Thalys and use the free Benelux IC instead
Amsterdam - Strasbourg: Best solution probably the free Benelux IC to Bruxelles and change to a free EC to Strasbourg. An alternative route could be via Maastricht - Liège - Luxembourg
So total costs for reservations: at least ~50€ depending on the connections you choose.
Alternative route Lisboa - Sevilla: https://rail.cc/en/portugal-spain-algarve-train-bus/f1435 There are really nice places at the Algarve, especially the area around Lagos is easily reachable by train. Your schedule is rather packed already, but here are some tips:
- Coimbra, Tomar, Douro valley in Portugal
- Caceres in Spain (due to the schedules rather complicated to fit in between Lisboa and Sevilla)
- Dune de Pyla close to Bordeaux
- Gent, Brugge and Antwerpen in Belgium (Bruxelles is rather dull IMO...)

Wow, that was fast. Thank you for your help, especially your recommendations for Belgium and France.
BUT: Are you sure that the tour is possible wit the 10in22-ticket? We need two days only for the HOT from Lisboa to Sevilla and have many more ways to go. I doubt that it works, but you seem to be the expert. ;D

Hi,
no problem. ;) For Lisboa - Sevilla with Madrid you need only one travel day as you can use the 1900 rule for night trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
For the route you listed you will need 10 travel days (Porto to Strasbourg). If you want to include more stations in your trip you should go with the 22 continuous ticket, but for the current route you will be fine with the 10in22. :)

As far as I remember, the train from Lisboa to Sevilla only goes one time per day. It leaves at about 22.30 and is to slow to arrive before 4 am...am I wrong?

Alright, thanks mate, you helped me a lot. Nevertheless, there are two more questions:
- We want to start our tour on the 1st of June. When we should buy our ticket?
- Is it necessary to care about the reservations a long time before the journey or can we do that more or less flexible during our tour?

Hi!
- If you want to support our work here at the forum and website, please buy your ticket at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you. :) Free standard shipping takes about 7 business days, so I'd recommend to order about two weeks in advance.
- It is always difficult to say when you have to buy reservations. In general my advice is to get those reservations which are important (because there is only one connection per day/you have to be at a certain place at a certain time/you have to go home that day/...) as soon as you know you are going to travel on that day.
Often there are several connections per day so in case a train is fully booked you can take one train later or earlier. In most cases there are also alternative connections available for which you dont need a reservation.
