April 2011

I have decided that now is as good a time as any and plan on travelling around Europe for the month of April 2011 with my wife. Having said that, we have a little under 3 weeks to plan and or wing this trip. So any suggestions on our planned route is welcome.

We intend to spend between two and three nights at most places, and will be travelling for just over 31 days before heading back to London. I think this calls for the one month Global Pass!!!

My main worry is the Easter period and how this will effect travelling as we hope to travel from La Spezia (Cinque Terre) to Nice on Easter Friday before heading across to Barcelona on the Sunday.

Does anybody have any general advice or suggestions about this trip?

Cheers

Hi hicupz.

Eastern is a peak time in European rail travel. But no worries. simply use Regional trains. On the following route, you won't loose a lot of time and it is as well a nice route along the coast.

La Spezia Centrale dep: 1254 | Regional train
Ventimiglia arr: 1731

Ventimiglia dep: 1747 | Regional train
Nice Ville arr: 1836

For Nice - Barcelona, I recommend to book trains in advance (if needed). As your travel dates are fixed, do this at the main station in Berlin. They should be able to make the reservations for you!

Either on your way to Barcelona or back to Paris (maybe this is the better option), cross the Pyrenees by the Petit Train Jaune!

Information to the other connections (just some examples, there are of course more connections available using the schedule planer):

Amsterdam-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346
Berlin-Prague: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361
Prague-Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/prague-budapest-train/f1468
Budapest-Vienna: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-vienna-munich-train-railje/f4070
Vienna-Venice: https://rail.cc/en/vienna-venice-night-train/f3671
Italy: if you want to save money, use the slower IC (free - reservation recommended for EUR 3) trains instead the Eurostar Italia trains (supplement EUR 10)
The rest of your trip see above.

Have sunny travel days and if you want to support our work, buy your official rail pass to the official prices via [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you. Peter :)
