Is this system any good? It seems considerably cheaper than powered public transport and you get to see what you are going past?

I've never tried it out although I'm in Paris quite often...it always seemed rather pricey to me. If you buy a carnet (10 single trips) for the metro it is only ~1,20€ for a single trip which I consider very cheap. Moreover, Paris is quite compact so you dont have to walk much between interesting sights.
If you are under 26 you can have a very cheap day pass at weekends for ~3,50€.
If you decide to go with the bike it can be quite nice I guess, the situation for cycling in the city got much better throughout the last years.

Expensive? It is 1 euro a day as long as each journey is less than 30 minutes.

Ah, ok. In that case it surely worth considering. :) I just remember that we wanted to try it two years ago but it was way to expensive then...

I always thought these schemes were expensive but the official website seems to suggest otherwise. It is 150 euros for a year, 1 for a day or 5 for a week
