Hi Everybody
I am nearly set to go Interrailing. The only thing that is worrying me is connections and train times etc...
The one that I am finding difficult is between Zagreb and Lucerne as according to the Deutsche Bahn website there is a bus on one of the routes. I looked on the timetable link from this website and this connection wasn't shown?
It would be extremely helpful if someone could give me a train time for each day in the morning. I can then compare this to the list I have as I want to make sure everything is perfect.
Travel (Stay in Wien) 7th March
Wien (Stay) 8th March
Travel (Stay in Budapest) 9th March
Budapest (Stay) 10th March
Travel (Stay in Zagreb) 11th March
Zagreb (Stay) 12th March
Travel (Stay in Venezia) 13th March
Venezia (Stay) 14th March
Travel (Stay in Lucerne) 15th March
Lucerne (Stay) 16th March
Travel back to Regensburg 17th March
Thanks in advance.

Please guys - I really need some assistance here.
I have just spent a long time trying to find out about the connection between Zagreb and Venezia as all the websites show different things. I have also thought about making train reservations but I am not sure which trains need reservations.
I just want to be sure that I don't miss any trains as it looks like there is only 1 between Zagreb and Venezia.
Thanks
Edward

Hi!
Wien Westbahnhof 0804 - 1049 Budapest Keleti pu
Wien Westbahnhof 0954 - 1249 Budapest Keleti pu
no reservation required
Budapest Keleti 0630 - 1317 Zagreb Glavni kol
no reservation required
Zagreb - Venezia: https://rail.cc/en/zagreb-venice-night-train/f1389 or https://rail.cc/en/ljubljana-venice-train/f3663
Zagreb 0900 - 1119 Ljubljana
Ljubljana 1320 - 1511 Sezana
Sezana 1635 - 1727 Nova Gorica
by bus or on foot to Gorizia Centrale (as described in the link above)
Gorizia Centrale 1820 - 1840 Monfalcone
Monfalcone 1907 - 2049 Venezia SL
no reservation required; the connection is rather bad as 13th March is a Sunday...
Zagreb 0652 - 1049 Villach
Villach 1056 - 1425 Venezia Piazzale Roma
Villach - Venezia by bus, ~7€ reservation required. I think the connection is too tight as you probably need to get a reservation in Villach...I dont no if you can get one in Zagreb. But you could get one while you are in Vienna. I just checked and the Zagreb - Villach train was late only once within the last two weeks...so the connection should work out if you already have the reservation. Next bus would leave two hours later.
Venezia SL 0858 - Milano Centrale 1125
Milano Porta Garibaldi 1238 - 1343 Chiasso
Chaisso 1352 - 1609 Arth-Goldau
Arth-Goldau 1614 - 1641 Luzern
10€ reservation required for Venezia - Milano
Luzern 0954 - 1055 Basel SBB
Basel SBB 1104 - 1352 Frankfurt/Main Hbf
Frankfurt Main/Hbf 1416 - 1725 Regensburg
no reservation required
Luzern 1210 - 1256 Zürich HB
Zürich HB 1316 - 1728 München Hbf
München Hbf 1744 - 1915 Regensburg

Hi Flo
Many thanks for all of this. I feel much better now. So basically regarding the following I can choose either route but the second one would require a reservation. I would need to get to Venice SL so maybe the first option is the best.
Is it easy to walk - Not sure how many buses there will be as it is a Sunday as you said.
Also regarding the train from Villach - Venezia are there several over the day - Where do you find out about this bus online?

Yeah, on the second connection you need a reservation for the bus Villach - Venezia. By the way, Piazzale Roma is the bus terminal in Venezia and only about 200m away from the train station Santa Lucia. The buses should be included in all online schedule planners. There are three daily buses plus two extra connections throughout the summer months.

Ah Ok so if I choose the second option it won't matter if we missed the connection as there would be another bus 2 hours later anyway. - I think I am correct in saying this?
I think that this looks like a better option with less changes.
Thanks again

Yeah, you would have the option to take the bus two hours later. But you would probably need a new reservation or try to exchange the original one.

Brilliant. Thanks for that.
Just discovered that my Interrail ticket begins on the 8th (I won't need to travel until the 9th)
I guess this won't be a problem as I just write on the ticket that my first travel date is the 9th. In other words it doesn't matter that I am not travelling on the first day of ticket validity?

Hi guys
Leaving for Zagreb tomorrow.
I spoke to a lady at the station the other day and she said no deposit is required for the 6:30 IC train.
I am not sure if she simply didn't understand me correctly or whether there really is no
deposit required.
Thanks
Edward

No problem. Sorry Flo, I just was really confused because this forum states that IC trains in Hungary require reservation.
Thank you for all your help.

No problem. ;)
The section with supplements will be upgraded with the new version of the website/forum . In Hungary the situation with reservations is particularly complicated and I'm trying to get up to date information from MAV START. In general domestic travel requires a reservation, but international connections can be used without (expect to Romania). But well, that doesnt have to bother you anymore. ;)
