hi all!

we are two guys from switzerland (near zurich) and we are planning to do an interrail trip in summer 2011 starting from zurich. it is our first time.
we would like to travel the following route:

Day 1: Zurich-Hamburg
Day 2: Hamburg
Day 3: Hamburg
Day 4: Hamburg-Somewhere at the the eastcoast of danmark (baltic sea, suggestions?)
Day 5: ...-Copenhagen
Day 6: Copenhagen
Day 7: Copenhagen
Day 8: Copenhagen-Stockholm
Day 9: Stockholm
Day 10: Stockholm
Day 11: Stockholm-Oslo
Day 12: Oslo
Day 13: Oslo-Bergen
Day 14: Bergen
Day 15: Bergen-Aberdeen (by plane, booked in advance)
Day 16: Aberdeen
Day 17: Aberdeen-Edinburgh
Day 18: Edinburgh
Day 19: Edinburgh-Liverpool
Day 20: Liverpool
Day 21/22: open (including trip back to zurich (ferry and train (eurostar seems too expensive))

Does this route and the time planning seem reasonable to you who are more experienced?
We're not sure about liverpool, do you have other suggestions for places in england worth to see?

thanks for any responses!

Hi.
your route looks o k to me , except for 3 days!! in Copenhagen , seems abit much to me , I had one day there last year which was enough. I dont see the reason for Liverpool, unless to see football or research the Beatles. It all depends on what you are interested in and the availibility of money.
You can get a ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, cheapest price about £20 uk pounds, leaves U K at 17.00 arrives Amsterdam 9.30 next morning.
train from Amsterdam to Paris, then Paris to Zurich, but not cheap , depends on whether you still have any money left, otherwise you will have to walk it.

Hi!

Maybe think about Nakskov in Denmark...you can go there by train from Nykobing which is on the way from Hamburg to Kobenhavn. But the beach is still some ~4/5km away from the station, I dont know if there is a bus or anything..

Like Trains1 already said, 3 days in Kobenhavn seem a little much. Far more to do in Stockholm. Maybe add a trip with the Flamsbana instead?

UK back to Switzerland:

I would recommend to go with Dover - Calais ferry, probably the cheapest option overall. https://rail.cc/en/ferry-london-paris-england-france/f1222

It is possible to go within a day Liverpool - London - Dover - Calais - Paris stay there overnight and continue Paris - Belfort - Mulhouse - Basel - Zürich without paying anything extra (except for the ferry of course). Maybe it is also possible to to the whole trip Liverpool - Zürich within a day with the ferry but then you would have to use TGV trains for sure (6€ reservation). I'll have a look...

What kind of advice to you need? :)

In the UK, think about using one of the night trains from London to Scotland or back (to/from Glasgow, Edinburgh,...) to save some money on accomodation - a seat reservation for those night trains is free of charge. If you have time you could go to Fort William which is a really beautiful train trip.

You could make a day trip to Uppsala from Stockholm.
