I'm doing Erasmus in Lund, Sweden and I'm thinking about buying a 5 in 10 ticket to the Easter vacation. My plan is:
Stockholm - Karlstad - Ostersund - Gallivare - Kiruna - Narvik - Trondheim - Oslo
I have some questions though:
a) Is this route easily done with a 5 in 10?
b) Which do you think is the best (most beautiful/worth seeing) route from Stockholm to Narvik?
i) Stockholm - Karlstad - Ostersund - Gallivare - Kiruna - Narvik, or
ii) Stockholm - Uppsala - Gavle - Sundsvall - Umea - Gallivare - Kiruna - Narvik
c) Should I spend a day of the IR ticket from Lund to Stockholm and then from Oslo to Lund, or is it better to buy the tickets for these connections?
d) Any sugestion where I should definitely stop, see and enjoy?
Best regards,
Gonçalo, Portugal.

Hi Gonçalo.
If you stop in every city to stay overnight, you will have 7 travel days. If you want to skip two places, skip Gällivare and Kiruna. Both are nice, but the other ones are bigger and more to see.
The much nice route is the one served by the Inlandsbanan - a real adventure trough the nature. Calculate two days if you want to travel it the relaxed way. But I am not sure - usually the Inlandsbanan starts running from mid of June until mid of August. Check it at: https://rail.cc/en/inlandsbanan/f1333
The route ii is also nice - but I would prefer i to go up and ii to travel back to Stockholm.
If you have more time and you can expend your trip, think about going from Narvik to Bodoe including the islands of the Lofoten. Absolutely wonderful: https://rail.cc/en/bodoe-narvik-hurtigruten-lofoten-bus/f1285
If you want to buy single tickets for some connections, check the websites of the Swedish national railway company www.sj.se or the Norwegian one www.nsb.no - the sometimes offer special deals.

Thanks for the quick and nice reply, Peter.
Yeah my idea in the beginning was doing the Inlandsbanan, but since it is only available during summer time, I thought to use the same route.
So, probably the better idea is to use a 15-day ticket, right? I never thought to include the islands, but I've been researching and seems really amazing!! Thank you for the suggestion.
So (using the 15-day pass):
Lund - Stockholm (3 days in Stockholm) - Karlstad (1 day) - Ostersund (2 days) - Kiruna (1 day) - Bodoe (including the islands, 3 days) - Narvik (2 days) - Trondheim (2 days) - Oslo (3 days), and then normal ticket to Lund. Or normal ticket to Stockholm and IR from Oslo to Lund, haven't decided yet.
Is it doable?
Gonçalo ;D

Mistake:
Kiruna - then Bodoe, and not Bodoe - Kiruna

Still sleeping,
Narvik (not Kiruna), then Bodoe.

Hi.
Narvik is done in one day, the same for Bodoe ... good to spent two or three days for the islands in between. :)
Think about the 10 days in 22 InterRail pass. It might be cheaper than the 15 continuous pass PLUS the extra single tickets.
Peter :)
