Hi there,

My friend and i are going interailing in June starting in Venice. We wanrt to go to Croatia, do you think its best we go from Verona to Venice, then venice to Ancona and catch the ferry to Split. Or go from Venice to croatia, we dont want to go down croatia to come back up and would like to see a wee bit of Italy. Any suggestions would be most welcome :) :D

THANKS

Hi.

You have two options to get from Italy to Croatia.

1) Via Venice - Slovenia - Croatia. On this option a stop at Lake Bled (in Slovenia) is possible:

2) The option you mentioned by ferry. In your case the better option as you save time and the whole way down in Croatia to Split:

More details as well in the country topics:

Thank you very much Peter. We have decided to go Ljuibiana, Zagreb, Split. However we are a bit stuck form split, we dont really want to go back up to Zagreb as it seems a bit of a waste but we want to go up the way either to Hungary or Austria, we are not fussy. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Hi!

In summer there is a direct night train Split - Budapest on Wed and Sat. It is recommended to book rather early as the train is likely to be full.

You will pass through Zagreb anyway; you can also use the night train Split - Zagreb and then continue to either Budapest or Graz/Wien or go during the day.

Well, you can take the night train Split - Zagreb and continue from there: to Budapest, Graz, Wien, Salzburg,...

Or go by day train in the morning - then you will be in Zagreb early afternoon and can continue to Wien or Budapest.
