Hey you.
My name's Elias and I'm 21 years old from Denmark. This Sunday I woke up and had an impulsive idea: Now is the time!
I know it's kinda off going on a InterRail trip in February, but now is the right time for me.
So anyway, cut to the chase.
I'm gonna go on my own by the end of this week. The scheduled route thus far: Berlin, From Berlin to Prague, from Prague to Vienna, from Vienna to Zürich.
I'm planning to have a total budget (after having payed the ticket) of around 270 euros. I'm gonna get myself a Global Pass that gives me 10 travel days out of 22 days in total. So by doing a little math I have a daily budget of approximately 12€ a day (if I plan on being gone all 22 days, which I might not be).
So what are my expenses gonna be?
food
water
shelter
train supplements/surcharges
First off, I'm planning to bring a lot of canned food: beans and tuna as first priorities (something like 30 cans - yes I'm gonna live like a king!). Also I should have enough water for the first couple of days.
Secondly I'm bringing my sleeping bag with me (I might be able to crash at someone-I-know-in-Prague's house for 1-2 days). *Note* if anyone has any ideas/experience where to sleep safely in public let me know.
The only night train I have planned so far is from Vienna to Zürich due to the distance (by the way I can't find any info on Vienna - Zürich - is there any price supplements here?) Gonna go on a EuroNight train.
So what I would like to know:
To you, who have experience travelling, is this amount of money simply not enough even if you try to cut back on your expenses and live 'minimalistic' ?
Would it be better, on such a low budget, to explore more of the Eastern European countries where things are more cheap? In that case suggestions of where to go are much welcome.
Where do I find 'cheap shelter'? Where are the most cheap hostels in the city's I've planned to go to? Any alternatives on how to get 'free and safe shelter'?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Elias ...
EUR 12 per days isn't a lot ... but with all your cans, sleeping a some friends houses, etc ... maybe you can do it...
The best to save money is to have your own small camping stove with you - for some noddles mixed with your cans... :)
Hostels are sometimes expensive, but in Berlin, Prague it should be possible to get a cheap bed in a dorm. Check this website which should help you: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
Night train Vienna-Zurich: https://rail.cc/en/vienna-zurich-night-train/f1449

Good news. I've just raised my budget so I should have about a total of 460€. Which would give me about 21€ a day if I'm gone all 21 days.
I'll probably not be gone for more than two weeks though, so it's looking up! :)
Hah, I don't have a camping stove, but I'll probably bring a lot of dried fruit as well to brighten it up with.
