Hello fellow travelers,

i plan to travel in May with two friends of mine using the inter-rail pass 10 days of travel within 22 days. The whole journey will be 15 to 17 days.
I would really appreciate some suggestions for the route we will most likely take(as an example how feasible it is).
We will fly from Athens to Rome with an early flight and probably spend 2 days there. We will then activate the first day of travel going to Umbria and Toscany regions, spending a few hours in some places like Florence and Siena. Then we will pass through Liguria region, also at least spend a couple of hours in Genoa and/or some villages, with direction to French Riviera. We plan to spend a day in Nice and a couple of hours in Monaco and Cannes. Then, through Provence(notably Avignon and Aix-en-Provence) and Perpignan we will head to Barcelona and spend two or 3 days there. We will pass through Pyrenees both the way in and out of Spain. The following destinations are Loire Valley and Normandy in France. We plan to spend a couple of days in these regions to see some of the villages and small towns and other highlights like Mt Saint Michel and D-Day beaches. Our final destination will be Frankfurt for a late evening flight back to Athens. During our travel from Normandy(probably with a connection through Paris) to Frankfurt, we want to stop for at least a couple of hours both In Strasbourg and Heidelberg.
Do you recommend an overnight train in a part of the trip (to save some time and money from accommodation)?
We think of taking one from Normandy to Strasbourg, if there is any.
Is it too ambitious? :|
I really look forward to some piece of advice and recommendations..! :D

Hi.
Your route sounds very well planed.
In Italy pay atention: use regional trains and IC trains - not the expensive Eurostar Italia trains (see supplements).
In France the same: the fast TGV trains are often booked out or expensive for InterRail travelers.
Night trains are recommended. More information:

From and to Strasbourg you only have North-South connections by night trains. There are no connections to the Normandie or the Bretagne like it was in the past.
One night train connection is this one: Barcelona-Pyrenees-Latour de Carol-night train to Paris:

You do not need to take the Petit Train Jaune - you can also go the direct way Latour de Carol to Paris.
