Me and a friend (or two) are thinking about going interrailling this Summer. Neither of us have done it before so we don't really have any specific ideas apart from definately wanting to go to Lake Bled in Slovenia, and perhaps Prague in Czech Republic and Zurich or somewhere else in Switzerland (providing these are recommendable). Also, I've been told Croatia is a stunning country and is not to be missed.
Other than that we're entirely open to suggestions - the route I've put as the 'subject' of the post is just a rough idea which I put together as it involves those just mentioned and whatever is inbetween.
It is by no means at all planned yet and the final trip could be completely different so literally any ideas/comments/suggestions are welcome and would be much appreciated, as well as reasons (if any) why NOT to go anywhere in specific.
And to give some idea, we'll probably be going for 15 day continuous passes (although 22 day is a possibility if none of the places we go are too expensive) and ideally there would be a good mix of beautiful places to see and a few good nights out :D
Thanks,
Matt

Hi matt,
to my mind you won't make this route in 15 days (7 different countries!!). you should minimize your destinations. maybe leave out 2 countries (i would leave out italy and switzerland as these are the most expensive ones, well austria is not cheap either but vienna is great!)
here are some tips for you guys:
Czech - PRAGUE! I've been there in summer 10. a wonderful city and cheap! unfortunately, it is full of tourists..
Austria - Vienna, Salzburg, Graz. I have only been to vienna though. i can recommend it, a beautiful place but it isn't cheap. still worth it though!
Hungary - Budapest. quite nice as well. worth visiting the city for 1 or 2 days..
Croatia + Slovenia - haven't been there. but i heard it is stunning.
Italy - Obviously so much to see (toscany, rome, venice and much more) but expensive! ive been to venice last summer, quite nice to hop on and off on boats but that's it really.
Switzerland - very expensive! zurich and bern are supposed to be quite nice. ive never been there though as iam not that interested in switzerland.
hope this helps you a bit..
cheers

Thanks,
I had heard that Prague is full of tourists but if you go mid-week opposed to the weekend it's not so bad because you miss the majority of the stag/hen nights apparently.
As for Switzerland and Italy, we'll happily remove them from the trip as I had a little look into it and you're right - expensive.
So I'm now thinking...
Fly to...
Czech (Prague)
Austria (Vienna and perhaps Graz as it's on the way to Slovenia)
Slovenia (Lake Bled then Ljubljana)
Croatia (Zagreb)
...Fly home
Now all I'm thinking is from what I've read, these are beautiful places but we wanted a few destinations with great nightlife. I heard Belgrade is a good city for that but it doesn't seem easy to get one way flights back to London from there (or to Belgrade from London if we were to do it in reverse) Any ideas on changes?

there should be a flight london - croatia (zagreb?dubrovnik?split?)
you should check that.
regarding nightlife: can't really tell you much about it as we were always quite knackered because we walked almost every single way to avoid buying tickets for tram or buses..
however, i know someone in vienna and he always tells me how awesome partying in vienna is..

Sounds good. Also found out that one of the guys knows someone in Frankfurt, Germany so we might fly there as it's cheap and stay with him for the first few days then we can start the Interrail pass from the time we plan to leave and head to Prague I guess.

Hi!
First, I would recommend to go with the 10in22 instead of the 15continuous. It will give you more flexibility (you wont need to travel every day) when you decide to extend your travel (of course this doesnt apply when you fly into your first destination as well as fly back home). You can use the 1900-rule for night trains https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
And it will be cheaper. ;)
Graz is nice of course :D so if you happen to come here contact me and I can give you some tips.

Thanks Flo!
Prague and Serbia are the two absolute definite destinations of the trip and with Austria being inbetween, we'll certainly pass through so it's highly probable that Graz will be a stop, along with Vienna. So expect a message in a few months asking for advice on cool things to do! ;)
Another thing we would quite like to do is have something to climb or at least a high point somewhere where you can just see so for miles. Perhaps we'll try to get there for a sunrise/sunset one day. If anybody knows of anywhere around this part of Europe where you could trek up high and there might be places to stay or camping spots part way up please let me know!
