Hello there!
My name is Andreas, and I have started to plan an interrail trip, with 2 of my friends this summer.
It is the first time any of us are going to try interrail, but we are all rather excited about it, I've personally looked around this page among others to try to gather information about how interrail work in general and where we'd plan to go.
At the momen our route is Sofia-Beograd-Budapest-Bratislava-Prague, we plan to fly to Sofia and stay there 3-4 days before starting the railroad trip, we plan to buy the 10 days - 5 travel days card. From Prauge well take our last trip till the danish/german border where our family will be able to pick us up.
Obviosly we have 10 days from when we leave sofia till we need to be at the danish border, now im asking how we should prioritize our time, im sure some of the places are worth more time than others.
Also tips about things to see in the diffrent cities are greatly welcomed - We'd like to see both cultural stuff, and go out on bars/discoes on our trip.
We plan to sleep on hostels and maybe in the train from Sofia to Beograd and Beograd Budapest, as they seem like fairly long trips (about 8,5 hours if im not mistaken?) - As it is our first trip we're slighly concerned with sleeping in the train, however it would give us some more time to be awake and experience stuff - As i see it it it is possible to sleep on thouse 2 distances if im not mistaken? But how safe is it ?
Any input to our trip in general and the specifics are very welcome !

There are sleeper trains both from Sofia to Beograd and from Beograd to Budapest. The cheapest berth supplement from Beograd to Budapest costs € 16,40. I don't know how many costs the supplement from Sofia to Beograd.
About the safety - yes, there are legends about armed gangs in Eastern European sleeper trains, but they are nothing but legends :D Even if someone want to rob you, he would use stealth instead of violence. So the general safety rules are:
- Keep money and valuables on your body or under your pillow.
- Do not leave you compartment together, let at least one person to watch over your luggage.
- Avoid crowds at platform or in a train car corridor - the thieves use to crowd to you and rob you while you are crushed.
