Most expensive countries: Scandinavia, Switzerland (cheapest hostel €40), Austria (cheapest hostel €25). Pretty much every country with mountains apparently.
Cheapest I've experienced: Czech Republic (cheapest beer!!!!), Hungary (cheapest hostel €8) and I'm sure some Balkan countries too.

From personal experience:

Scandinavia was really expensive, but Helsinki had some really good buffets that would be an entire days food in one sitting! Italy is comparable in price.

The Baltics, including Poland, are not too bad, but I imagine now Estonia is more expensive now it has the euro.

Czech Rep, Slovakia and Slovenia are pretty decent prices for most things. Croatia and Hungary too.

Benelux is not to be taken lightly along with Austria and Switzerland. Germany isn't as bad compared to France and Spain.
