Hi there, im planing to do some travelling in the summer...
I will start my journy right after i got my a-level.
My Thing is I wanna be as long as possible on the road...
I planned a long route from south germany down to Austria (Vienna), Italy, then via France to Spain, Portugal, back up to France on the coast up to Netherlands, maybe England and Scotland..
I know that i will be travelling for a long time, but i think it would be worth it - I am not sure how i wanna travel, i thought about a mix of Bus/Trains/Hitchhiking/Ferrys and such things..
my thing is i am 18 and for a full month of Interrail tickets i would pay about 400€ if im right...
is it really worth it? Because i really would enjoy the freedom of staying in an interesting city for a few days for example...
The Question is, is it cheaper to buy train tickets on the station if i wanna take the train or should i buy a IR ticket, just to be sure that i can travel whenever i want by train?
Thanks for your answers!

btw, i have about a half a year time and 4000€ for the whole travelling thing :)
So I think time or money is no problem ...

Hi.
4000 EUR will be enough for 6 months... if you stay at campsites as well...
Most of the money you will spent for accommodation and food - beside train tickets, buses, etc.
I recommend you the 10 travel days within 22 days InterRail Global pass for EUR 249. You can do a lot with it - especially if you don't want to travel every day.
For single train tickets, check the websites of the national railway companies - but you will see that it is worth in your case as you are traveling in expensive Western-European countries. In Eastern Europe sometimes single tickets are cheaper. It always depends on your exact travel route and your journeys.
Of course you can buy special discounted train tickets which are promoted in adverts. But then you are fixed on date and time and loose your flexibility - also you have to book early.

Yeah, i think i will look at some railway companies for their prices... I dont want to travel by train only... actually
i thought i could travel from village to village by hitchhiking or buses or by foot... but trains are maybe sometimes the better idea..
I think i will start with a IR ticket 10/22 wich i use to get to Vienna and down to Italy aswell - later i will see what the cheapest or the
nicest way of travelling in the country is... I am really excited about it :D
Well, thanks for the information Peter ;)
