Me and two friends are planning on interrailing for a month in July. We have just started planning and are totally clueless on this kind of thing, we have a general plan of :

London-Paris-Barcelona-Madrid-Rome-Venice-Budapest-Berlin-Amsterdam-Belfast/Dublin then back to Scotland

We would also like to visit Prague,Munich,Florence and Stockholm but we are not really sure how to include these in our route. Is this plan viable or totally stupid?
Any suggestions on routes or places to visit would be much appreciated, because as i said we are clueless!

Thank you, Nicole

Hi Nicole.

No plan is stupid - it only depends on the time and money you have... :)

You will loose a lot of time by visiting Spain - and Stockholm is also a bit fare away ...
Keep in mind that you can NOT travel for free in your country of residence with InterRail. So you will have to pay for tickets in the UK.
Maybe a cheap flight from Scotland to Spain will be the best solution?!
As London to Paris is very expensive by Eurostar train.

Think about:
Fly to Spain - Madrid - Barcelona - Pyrenees (Petit Train Jaune) - Nice - Florence - Venice - Budapest - Krakow - Vienna - Munich - Prague - Berlin - direct night train to Malmö (Sweden) - Stockholm - Copenhagen - Amsterdam - ferry to the UK

If you route is more clear, I will give you more details.
Definitely check the country topics, nearly all connections should be listed there: https://rail.cc/en/countries

Hi!

As Peter mentioned, InterRail isnt valid in your country of residence. So, you will have to look for regular train tickets if you want to go to London. I would exclude Belfast and Dublin completely for this trip, it's better to visit them separately as you would have to pay for the transfer through the UK. However, an interesting alternative would be to go there and then take the ferry to Roscoff or better Cherbourg in France - but this rather expensive and comparable to a transit through the UK (and dont forget you'd as well have to pay for the ferry to Belfast).

I think Peter's suggestion of going to Spain directly by plane would be the best option. Maybe you will also find a cheap flight Portugal which is very nice country too.

Thank you very much guys!

yeah we had already included having to pay for london into the budget, but it's somehwere we really wish to visit.
i think we will leave belfast/dublin to a weekend perhaps later in summer. however we were really interested in visiting Paris

we will definitely look into the flight to Spain/Portugal then going from there.

Thanks for helping us get started, it is very much appreciated - as was your quick replys!

Nicole :)
