Hej guys,

I never bought a sleeping bag myself so I have no ideas about good brands and what is important to look for.

I need a quite light sleeping bag as I have to carry it around in my backpack. I saw that there are these super light summer sleeping bags, but I'm little bit afraid, that it would be not warm enough for me. I'm not really planning to sleep in tents, but anyway, I want to use the sb over several years so you never know.

To summerize, I need a quite light sb wich doesn't need to be warm for -20 °C but maybe little warmer than just a summer sleeping bag. Yeah and it should not be too expensive, of course.

Do you have any tips for me? I'm happy about any comments. Thanks!!

Nadine

Hi Nadine!

I have a simple Northland sleeping bag that has a temperature rating from +22° C down to +8° C - so nothing fancy or expensive. I only take the tent with me in the summer months (May - September) so never needed anything better, even when we stayed in the Swiss Alps at ~1800m last summer at -2° C it worked - although I had to put some extra warm clothes on.
I think for the classic InterRail a rather simple sleeping bag is enough - if it would be unexpectedly cold you can put some warm clothes on and you'll be fine, that's better than investing in an extra-warm, expensive sleeping bag of which you will seldom make real use.

I cant remember the price of mine since it is >10 years old... :D Maybe have a look at a local sport store...cant give you a specific recommendation, sorry.

buy anything cheap... those things only makes a difference in harsh conditions.. if you're not even planning in sleeping outdoors you don't have to bother with that. about cold, don't worry with that neither... if you're not going to extreme conditions, buy anything for 0º or a bit more warmer, cause you can always sleep with more clothes on if needed. overall don't waste much money on that

Hi,

I'm wondering the same. I just bought a micro lite sleeping bag which measures 30 cm x 15 cm diameter when rolled up in its bag. Wondering if I am even going to need this, or whether a simple sleep sheet which takes up less space will be sufficient...

Will be staying in hostels and trains, no camping.

Well, then it should be enough to take that small sleeping bag. If you need the space you could even replace it for the sleep sheet.
I quite like it to have a small sleeping bag when sleeping on a train (in regular seats that is since in couchettes and sleepers lines is provided).
