Hi,

I'm a first-time interrailer and was thinking of doing this route, however, being a poor student I only want to get the 10 day pass, which would start as I left Paris and then finish as I arrive at Rome. Is this route too ambitious for that pass and are the travel times too long, in particular Paris-Berlin? I am only going to Munich as that is the place where you have to get the train to Florence, but would it be easier to just miss out Florence as it is quite similar to Rome?

I'll be going in late August and early September.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi!

This trip should be doable with the 5in10 if you spend a little time on planning carefully. ;)

Paris - Berlin: To save time I would recommend the night train: https://rail.cc/en/paris-berlin-night-train/f3754 Make use of the 1900-rule: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

Berlin - Prague: Two hourly EC trains on this route - just hop on as you like. Sit on the left side to watch the scenery in the Elbe valley after Dresden. If you want you could also start early in the morning to Dresden, put your stuff in a locker at the station and have a short walk around the town, it is really nice. Then continue to Praha.

Prague (- Munich) - Firenze:

1)
Praha hl n 1310 - 1653 Schwandorf
Schwandorf 1708 - 1915 München Hbf
München Hbf 2102 - 0608 Firenze SMN :arr: https://rail.cc/en/munich-rome-night-train/f2872

2)
Praha hl n 1339 - 1822 Wien Meidling
Wien Meidling 1929 - 0618 Firenze SMN :arr: https://rail.cc/en/vienna-rome-milan-night-train/f1417

Depending on from where you find a good flight back home, I would recommend to go to Roma first so you'd be able to sleep longer, until 0915. Between Firenze and Roma there are frequent high speed trains (10€ reservation) as well as connections by slower regional trains. However, I wouldnt skip Florence as it has other (equally nice) features. :)
