Hi I'm in the very early stages of planning a three week trip to some places around Europe.
I plan to start by flying to Berlin from the UK (flying just to save travel time)
After Berlin in Prague
Then through austria possibly making a stop (I'd like to see some of the lakes but not sure if the train stops anywhere near the lakes and would only have 1 day there anyway)
Then down the Coast of Croatia (we havent decided where on the coast we'd like to visit but plan to have a good few days in Croatia- any suggestions would be appreciated)
From Croatia to Mostar in Bosnia
From Bosnia to Montenegro (we want to go to hills and cost in Montenegro so will have a few days there)
We then want to go to Athens and then spend a few days in greece before returning.
Does anyone have any advice or reconmendations on how to carry out this route? As I said we have only 3 weeks to see/do as much as we can!
Thanks
Flo

Hi!
Berlin - Praha: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-prague-train/f3361
Praha - Austria: On your way you could go to the Salzkammergut lakes or to Carinthia..if you dont have much time I would say Carinthia is the better option. Maybe like this:
Praha 0716 - 1215 Linz
Linz 1251 - 1359 Salzburg
Salzburg 1412 - 1653 Villach
This would include the quite spectacular Tauernbahn over the Alps between Salzburg and Villach.
Praha 1039 - 1522 Wien Meidling
Wien Meidling 1629 - 2046 Villach
This would go over the famous 150+ years old Semmeringbahn, one of the first mountain railways in the world.
In the vicinity of Villach you have Faaker See, quite nice and directly on the route to Slovenia/Croatia.
From Faak you then can go to Ljubljana or Zagreb - but connections are quite bad from Faak directly, so you would probably have to go to Villach again...but I can help you finding a good connection if you decide to go there. Two other lakes close to Villach are Ossiacher See and Wörthersee...with better connections as well...
For the following part, be prepared that there are some troublesome gaps in the railway network in this area. Have a look at the map here at you'll understand what I mean: http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/map.php?file=maps/croatia---slovenia---bosnia-hercegovina/croatia---slovenia---bosnia-hercegovina.gif and http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/map.php?file=maps/serbia---montenegro/serbia---montenegro.gif
What you could do: Zagreb - Split (beaches) - by bus to Ploce - Mostar - bus to Kotor (Montenegro), then Bar - Beograd - Athens
Regarding Greece have a look here: https://rail.cc/en/new-trains-from-thessaloniki-to-skopje-belgrade-and-sofia/f5508
