I just wonder if anyone has any tips on the best way to get from Ghent to Berlin possibly avoiding supplements. thank you ;)

Here some examples for you. Simply avoid using THALYS trains. In Germany all IC and ICE trains (excep very rare ICE SPRINTER) are free of supplements.
