Hi,
I am considering starting the first part of my Interrail trip this summer with my two kids from San Sebastian in Spain. I am thinking of flying from Brussels to Pau (cheap destination) and then taking the train on to San Sebastian. Is there anything to see / do in Pau ? And how easy is it to get to San Sebastian from Pau ? I am then planning a side trip to Bilbao and then down to Madrid for a couple of days via Salamanca. Then off to Barcelona for two / three days and then off to the South of France via le Petit Train Jaune.

Thanks,

Christina

Hi Christina.

Just some short information about the way to travel.

If you want to avoid supplements (for the TGV) you have supplement free connections by TER (local trains) from Pau to Hendaye.
Use this link to find schedules:
www.ter-sncf.com/Regions/aquitaine/Fr/Se_deplacer_en_TER/Avant_mon_voyage/Recherche_d_itineraires/Default.aspx

At Hendaye you have to change to Euskotren (not included in InterRail!) and go just two stops to Irun.
There you can take the RENFE Cercanias trains (included in InterRail) to San Sebastian.

If you want to pay the supplements for a TGV train (not worth in my eyes), use the schedule planer mentioned above and search fro Pau to Irun, then continue to San Sebastian by RENFE Cercanias trains.

Peter :)
