I am planning the last leg of my journey and wondered if anyone could suggest a couple of places to visit along this route preferably near the Rhone without straying too much from the train line?

Hi!
What kind of InterRail pass do you have? Valid for both France and Switzerland or Switzerland only? How much time do you have?
- Lyon is very nice, not directly on the way but from Lausanne you have reasonably good connections with a change of trains in Geneve. That route follows mostly along the Rhone, you could make a stop at Bellegarde. From Lyon you could then directly go to Paris by TGV or by slower but supplement-free TER trains via Dijon where you could also stop for a day.
- Not along the Rhone but also quite nice could be Neuchatel - Pontarlier - Dijon - Paris or Bern - Basel - Besancon - Paris
