Hello all,

This summer I would like to visit my parents in the Drome from Split (Before I come to Split I'll visit Hvar, Vienna, Berlin and Prague with other Dutch friends)
A friend is traveling with me and he would like to go to Barcelona to visit his parents.

We would like travel in approx. 4 days to Valence and Barcelona and see in the meanwhile some beautiful cities.
We only have the money to sleep in a cheap hostel or a night train (seat is okay for us)

Cities we like are Dubrovnik, Mostar, Sarajevo, Venice, Innsbruck, Bern, Florence or other wonderful places which are a bit on the route :) . Of course we understand we can't visit them all, we just want to know what is the best and cheapest if we want to go to Valence/Barcelona and visit some nice places in the meanwhile

Thanks!

Hi.

A little bit late ... sorry. ;)

Four days isn't a lot.

The trip Italy to Spain will already need two days - as you only have an hyper expensive direct night train:

Or trains with high supplements.

Have a look on these topics for the route Milan - Nice (over night stop) - Barcelona.

Also interesting and what I recommend is to travel from Italy via Nice in direction of Perpignan. Use regional trains. Avoid the TALGO trains from Montpellier to Barcelona (supplement EUR 18!!!!).
In Perpignan go up into the Pyrenees by the Petit Train Jaune, a real adventure.

Then by regional train down to Barcelona.

If you want to save money, travel from Nice to Toulouse, then up to Latour de Carol (where the Petit Train Jaune starts) - sleep somewhere outside behind the station. It is in the nowhere, not dangerous, but can become very cold at night.
In the morning by Petit Train Jaune to Perpignan - and by regional trains to Barcelona.

The two days before... mmmh... Zagreb, Ljubljana are on your way ... maybe think about the Alps ...?!?

Peter :)
