With the six month residency rule for interrailing are you allowed to leave the country of residence for small trips such as weekends or 1 week to European countries or must you stay wholly within a country for the entire period?

Hi.
It is definitely allowed to leave the country of residence within these 6 months for example a trip to some friends somewhere in Europe or fly back home for Christmas holidays.
The important thing is that you need some official documents showing your residency in this one European country for six or more months. This can be a visa or a residency permit. It has to show that you main residency is in Europe.

Thank you for that info.
My next question is there a limit on how many interrail tickets you can purchase in a ny one period. So for instance can you buy a 1 month globall pass and then at the end of it buy another month or other days?

Hi.
There is no limitation. Buy as much as you want. You can also buy two ONE-months InterRail Global Passes at once.
InterRail passes are available for purchase up to three months in advance.
Important: you do not need to have the six months (stay in Europe) completed at the day of purchase, but at the first day your ticket is valid.
