I'm going to buy an Interrail ticket but this residency thing is a problem. It is very confusing for many nationalities like British and Irish because we don't really have 'residency' - there's no requirement for EU nationals to register with the police to declare where they live or carry an ID card like in most countries. I am a British citizen (Isle of Man), have a British passport and have spent time there in recent years but not much. However, I have no way of proving how much time I've spent there. I have documents which could prove that I am 'resident' in Italy as I lived there for 3 years - things like bank statement, bills (but not actual residence permit), etc. BUT I don't live there any more (and haven't since June 2010). Now I'm living in Montenegro but I've only been here for 2 months so I don't qualify as being resident here even though it's the only country where I actually have a document stating that I am resident!

So what I'm asking is: is my British passport enough to say that I'm resident in Britain? Will anybody check my 'residency' proof or will it just be my ID that they're looking at?

I'm intending to buy the 10 in 15 day pass for all of Europe and intend to travel in Montenegro, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy.

Any help would be very welcome!

Hi!

Do you have any proof of residency (Visa etc) in another country in your UK passport? If not, then it is no problem to buy a British InterRail pass and use it in the countries you've mentioned. :)

No, the only residency/visa I have is for Montenegro. Never bothered getting Italian residency during the 3 years I was there. I'm just going to buy the ticket stating that I'm British resident as although I'm resident in Montenegro it's only been for 2 months. Thanks.
