So we're looking to do either a month or five week trip, mainly focused on central Europe. Our plan:

Arrive in Rottderdam after getting a ferry to Hoek van Holland
Then go to Antwerp, with a brief stop in Ghent and Bruges
Stop off in Stuttgart, and then make the trip down to Zurich
Then across the Austrian border with Germany to get to Salzburg.
Then up to Munich and over to Neuschwanstein.
Next, get a night train to Vienna, and then after that, another night train to Venice.
Following that, over to Slovenia, with some brief stops at Bled and Bohinj
Finally, over to Croatia, visiting Dubrovnik, Plitvice, before flying back to the UK from Split

Thoughts?

Hi.

My thoughts...

Munich to Vienna: use a day train. For example a Railjet train, free of supplements. Better to stay one more night in Munich or Vienna. You will find there good and cheap hostels - at least cheap for big cities like they are.

Venice to Slovenia: do it this way - it is without supplements: https://rail.cc/en/venice-ljubljana-train/f3664

Thanks for the quick response Peter :)

Can you recommend places along that route that are great places to visit?

Thanks!

Mmmh... I would skip Venice (very touristy and expensive) and add instead an other Italian city.
OR you add Budapest (it is not fare away from Vienna) and then from there to Slovenia and Croatia.

Check the country topics to find details about night trains and connections: https://rail.cc/en/countries

Peter, why do you suggest that a day train from Munich to Vienna is a good idea? It's a long journey and uses up pretty much 1 day

Hi.

If you use the direct Railjet trains (RJ) you do not have to pay a supplement. Journey time is: 4 hours.

There is one night train:
Munich dep: 2340
Wien arr: 0545
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/munich-budapest-en-463/55

Not a really long night to sleep - and you have to pay an extra supplement.
That's the reason why in my opinion the night train isn't worth to use. But it is your decision - you simply asked for thoughts and that's one of me. :)

Peter :)
