Hello, I've decided to do some interrailing in November, mainly in Germany. The idea is to fly out to Berlin before meeting my Dad in Dortmund 2 weeks later, to see a Borussia Dortmund football match.
I'd obviously have 2 weeks to do some travelling beforehand. I've listed a possible route I'd like to do but was wondering if thats do able in a 2 week period and more importantly what pass to get. Would it be cheaper to do it on point to point tickets?
This route is just an idea so if anybody has a better one that starts in Berlin and ends in Dortmund then i'd be very interested in hearing it!
Thanks

Hi,
I think you should probably buy a 5days in 10 days ticket, and if it happens that u need one or two extra days, you can buy day ticket for one region (in Germany), it's cheap, especially if you travel with others. But don't just buy the day tickets, as they are only valid on regional trains, and on one hand they are very slow when covering huge distances, on the other hand you should definitely take the Frankfurt-Köln ICE with the speed of 300kmph. :)
Have a nice trip!

Cheers for the reply.
Sorry to sound stupid but what does '5 days in 10 days ticket' actually mean? I'm probably wrong but would it allow me 120 hours of train useage whenever I want within the 10 days? So could I effectively take in loads of different places for short periods of time?

Hi.
ONE travel day is from 00:01h in the morning until 23:59h at night.
You can use as much trains and cross borders as you want.
There is one special rule concerning night trains helping you saving a travel day (you can not use it on the first day your ticket is valid):
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
You fix the starting date of your ticket at the purchase. The FIVE travel days you fill in during your trip manually whenever you need them.

Oh right cheers, that night rule seems pretty handy. I've actually been looking into a different route to the one I posted such as
Munich- Vienna- Krakow- Prague- Berlin- Dortmund
Does that route sound feasible for the 5 in 10 pass? Is it best to stay in each place of 1 or 2 days? I was also wondering if there's anything else on route that is worth taking in. I know Auschwitz is near Krakow.

Hi.
Definitely a good route and possible with the 5 in 10.
If you have the time, maybe add Budapest.
Munich - Vienna - Budapest - Krakow - Prague - Berlin and then buy a Spezial Preis ticket of Deutsche Bahn to Dortmund.
If you know the exact trvel date of Berlin - Dortmund, buy it one or two weeks in advance via [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] . If you travel outside the peak times, you get it for EUR 19.
And all cities are worth to stay at least 2 nights.

I may have to try and fit Budapest in then, will see how it goes.
Also you said something above about night trains, the 1st day my ticket will be valid is on the 2nd November, I've planned on using a night train from Krakow-Vienna (22.11-06.22) on that day, is that not allowed?

Hi.
First day your ticket is valid: 02/11/2010.
You can use this night train like this:
Krakow: 02/11/2010 - departure 22:11h
Vienna: 03/11/2010 - arrival 06:22h
Fill in as tavel day the 03/11/2011 using the rule for night trains: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
You can NOT do it this way:
Krakow: 01/11/2010 - departure 22:11h
Vienna: 02/11/2010 - arrival 06:22h
As your ticket starts from the 02/11/2010.
Peter :)
