Hi I would be thankful if you can enlighten me a wee bit ,I'm in Firenze and am looking at going to Bern for a few days. The Route Planner gave details of a train for the 30th at 9 am going through Milano central,my questions are; is there a change of trains here? as 2 train numbers are listed. Are supplements required? And finally do I fill out my interrail ticket for 1 or 2 trips,ie just Firenze to Bern or alse Firenze to milano and milano to bern?

Hi.
Firenze S.M.N. Dep: 0900 | by Eurostar Italia (ES) train - supplement EUR 10:

Milano Centrale Arr: 1045
Milano Centrale Dep: 1120 | by EuroCity (EC) train - supplement EUR 10
Bern Arr: 1423
Booking is possible online via the website of the Italian railway company:

The EC train seems to be a bit to expensive via the online tool. I remember it is normally 3-5 EUR.
If you want to avoid the supplements (but it will double your travel time), use the schedule planer first for the trip Firenze-Milano. Select the option without HST.
Then for the part Milano-Bern with the option without HST/trains with surcharge.

I was quoted 3,50€ for a reservation for the Italy-Switzerland EC trains last week at my station but I will check again. ;)
