Hello,
we're planning to do the 22 days continuous interrail during june and july 2011. We've also got absolutely no experience about things like how much time we need at the different destinations or how many destinations it's possible to see without beeing absolutely exhausted.
We thought about some destinations we would especially like to see like:

starting from vienna
venice
rome
barcelona
paris
london
amsterdam
berlin
back to vienna

so the reason i'm posting here is to collect some opinions if it's possible to visit all these cities during the 22 days and if it would be possible to stay in barcelona or paris for two or three days. I'm looking forward to good tips and helpful opinions :)

thanks in advance
greetings

Hi.
This trip is definitely possible.
Rome - Barcelona - Paris is a long trip, as if you want to avoid trains with high supplements, you have to do the trip Rome-Barcelona in two steps with a stop for example in Nice (France).

Just have a look at this topic: https://rail.cc/en/first-time-interrail
And check the country topics, all connections (at least examples) are listed there: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

Vienna-Venice: https://rail.cc/en/vienna-venice-night-train/f3671
I suppose you are from Austria? Then maybe save some of your travel days and try to get a special price for the direct night train to Venice. You will have to book this special price ticket early. Remember: you can not travel for free in your country of residence:
https://rail.cc/en/how-to-interrail

Venice-Rome: use the free IC trains - a reservation of is possible (EUR 3) and recommended, but not needed.

Rome-Barcelona:
Expensive night train via Milano: https://rail.cc/en/milan-barcelona-night-train/f1168
Step by step via Nice:

Barcelona-Paris:
Direct and expensive way: https://rail.cc/en/barcelona-paris-night-train/f1040
Cheap via the Pyrenees with the fantastic Petit Train Jaune: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Paris-London:

https://rail.cc/en/paris-london-ferry-calais-dover/f1442

London-Amsterdam: I recommend to use the ferry Harwich-Hoek van Holland.

Amsterdam-Berlin: https://rail.cc/en/amsterdam-berlin-train/f2346

Berlin-Vienna: https://rail.cc/en/berlin-vienna-night-train/f3738
Here you can buy as well a Europe Spar Preis Ticket via Deutsche Bahn if you want to use a day train.

Or you use your InterRail ticket until the Czech border at Breclav and get a regular ÖBB (Vorteils)-Ticket for the rest of the journey back to Vienna. ;) :)
