Ok so I'm going interrailing with 3 friends in Summer 2011 and I'm SOOOOO excited. The only problaymo is that I reallllllly don't want to bring a backpack because they're ugly and hurt and I'm quite tall and slim and they literally sometimes just topple over me or pull me back plus I want to wear heels sometimes when I travel and I just hate that dirty backpackers look. I've been told by loads of people that you HAVE to have a backpack but is it REALLY essential? Coz I have this amazing suitcase with four wheels that can rotate in all directions, sometimes I can't stop talking about it it's that amazing lol. I'm not gonna bring a tent in mine or pots and pans because tbh I'm not that bothered about food, only drink!

Also is it true when you're in Eastern Europe you have to have someone on your group stay awake on lookout for robbers? I'm propper up for doing that but I have a couple of friends who really can't be trusted with this task.

Also I heard Eastern European jails are really scary so should I be extra careful not to do any drunken antics that I'm famous for or will the prisons be ok lol? I'm actually deadly serious. :P

Cheers bubbas

Hi.

If you only stay in bigger cities and won't sleep at camp sites where you have to walk sometimes on small old roads to reach them, a suitcase (especially with 4 wheels) is a good deal. :)
I am honest: sometimes I have a suitcase as well.
It is interesting to see if you stay at one of the big European stations: Europeans, Americans and Australians often have backpacks - Asians have in most cases suitcases - and all travel nearly the same style. :)

About Eastern Europe: I often feel more comfortable there as in some Western European cities - a lot of nice and helpful people out there - especially in the night-life. Young local people are very open and interested.

hi everyone

Lozzs what are you on about 'friends that cannot be trusted with this task'? I am oober trustworthy remeber the bus?

And Tanya, i so agree with laura about the food thing. food is usually cheap i foreign countries so we can sort it out when we get there.

Also Peter, do you know what is the maximum number of weeks we can use the interail ticket and does the price of the ticket depend on the time we book it?

Hi.

The maximum you can travel with ONE InterRail ticket is: one month.
But you can buy for example two or three tickets to expand the total travel time.
There are no discounts (except the age - 25 and younger = YOUTH ticket) and the price doesn't depends on when you buy it.
The fares are listed here:
