Hi guys,

in Amsterdam and leaving for Berlin in the next few days, I noticed that the AMSTERDAM-BERLIN train does not leave from the centraal station in Amsterdam, but rather the Zuid station. can anyone give me any advice on how to get to the Zuid station from the centre of Amsterdam?

Many Thanks
Emmet

Hi!

I'd recommend to go to Schiphol Airport from Amsterdam Centraal - there are frequent services throughout the day. From there you can change to the IC to Berlin (They start at Schiphol and then call at Amsterdam Zuid, then Utrecht). Another possibility would be to go to Utrecht (from Amsterdam Centraal) and change there to the IC.

If you want to enter the train in Zuid, best way to get there is by public transport of Amsterdam operated by GVB. Attention, you now need a special chip card to use public transport in Amsterdam (similar to London's Oyster card) so it might not be worth it to get one.

Getting on the Amsterdam - Berlin - Szczecin trains from Amsterdam Central Station is easier via Amersfoort than via Schiphol. Just hop onto an Intercity train to Amersfoort Schothorst and get out at Amersfoort central station (the second stop from Amsterdam Central Station). The trains to Berlin do not call at Utrecht Centraal (except for the CityNightLine) !

You are certainly right about changing at Amersfoort instead of Utrecht. I think I confused the IC trains to Berlin with the ICE to Frankfurt...

If carrying large amounts of luggage it may be more convenient to change trains at Hilversum because the train to Berlin stops at the same platform, where in Amersfoort you'll have to change platforms and take the stairs etc.

Again take the Intercity train towards Amersfoort Schothorst but then get out at Hilversum, which is the first stop.
