As finnish I would like to recommend some charming places in our country. Turku is very old city and there are many things to see there. Castle near harbour is worth to visit. Turku cathedral church near the city centre is also place you don't want to miss if you like to see churches. Next year Turku is European culture capital city, so there are lots of happenings. If you like stop eating or drinking something there are something to anyone. Turku is quite international city, there lives many nationalities.
Porvoo is also one of our oldest cities. The old Porvoo is beatiful. Porvoo is quite near Helsinki and you can get there by bus from Kamppi bus station, which situates in centre of Helsinki.
I have to recommend also Rauma (I'm living near). Especially in summer it's full of life, and you hear many languages there then. I love old Rauma although I spend lots of time there and I've been living here almost 10 years. You can get to Rauma by bus from Turku and Helsinki. If someone wants to visit Rauma, I'll be happy to show it.
Tampere is also nice place, and in summer beautiful. Särkänniemi amusement park is worth to visit, you can easily spend there one day. To Tampere you can easily travel by train from Turku and Helsinki.

I recommend a small country city called kalajoki. There are the best beaches in Finland so if you are travelling in summer it's worth visiting. And if you happen to be there in june make sure you are there during the juhannus party ;) The nearest train station is in Ylivieska but there are good buss connections from there...

Hi Tanya!
This is probably too late, but good info for others who wonders.
www.camping.fi/template_page1.asp?sua=2&lang=3&s=528&q=y is the official camping site.
In the Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway) we have every mans right what means that we can go wherever in the forest to camping, Simply the rules are:
-Not allow to make open fire without permission of the landowner
-Not destroy plants etc.
-Clean the place afterwards
-Not to entry yards
In Finland is not realy dangerous animals to be afraid of. Except animals if they have children with them, one snake and wasp is dangerous if you are allergic to them.
The nature is pure and in many rivers and streams you can drink the water. (good to boil it, if not sure)
