I would like to have some advice, how early do I have to start planning my journey. I'm planning to travel april-may 2011. I think I will stay one week in Britain, one week in Ireland and one week in Germany, so my plan is to travel 22 days. Any advice is very welcome. This is my first Interrail, and my husband is terrified. :))

Hi.

Think about a ticket 10 days in 22 as you won't travel every day.
For hostels (what I definitely recommend as you will meet a lot of other travelers there) check the Hostelworld website: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]
Do not book too much hostels in advance, otherwise you are fixed on your route and you loose the feeling of freedom.

Concerning the planing... mmmhh... plan the cities you want to visit, have a look on hostels, but do not plan everything too much in detail. Better to enjoy your freedom during the trip.

Have a look on the country topics to find cheap options avoiding supplements like for example the ferry from the UK to France instead the Eurostar:
