Hey everyone,
I am planning my first inter-railing and I would appreciate your help. :) I live in Dublin, Ireland. I would like to fly to Vienna or Athens and then visit all those cities above.
I would like to stay at least 2 days in which one, so it would be at least 10 days + time of travelling.
Would the Global Pass 5 days within 10 days be enough?
How much money should I have for the trip? Would you suggest me to include any city? Does this route make any sense?
Thank you very much,
Reuben

Hi Reuben ...
The 5 in 10 will fit your needs.
Only as an example: you could use a normal train ticket for Vienna to Bratislava. It isn't expensive, if I remember right, it was someting about 10-15 EUR.
https://rail.cc/en/vienna-bratislava-train/f4055
Then Bratislava to Budapest (day 1):
https://rail.cc/en/bratislava-budapest-train/f3973
Budapest to Sofia by night train (day 2+3):
https://rail.cc/en/budapest-sofia-night-train/f3371
You will get the supplement for the night train of course in Budapest.
In Sofia you have two hours where you will have to buy the supplement for the night train to Istanbul. It is the Rila office for international tickets - in the main station a little bit beside the normal ticket counters.

Istanbul to Athens (day 4):

So you have ONE day left - might be useful if you are somewhere in delay and miss a train or if you need one day extra for Budapest-Istanbul

Hey Reuben
Your route sounds very good an interesting, personally I'd prefer sofia instead of bratislava, had many recommendation! Up 2 u :D
I'm planning a similar tour at the end of September, but starting from Aachen - Paris - Vienna - Sofia - Istanbul -Izmir - Athens with a global Pass.
I've already started research but some questions that occured remain unanswered.
Well I'm german and starting in Aachen taking the thalys to Paris wondering if I am allowed to use the pass1-tariff? Anyone got any experience with this issue? From Parris onwards to Istanbul the aren't any big problems... ok maybe there's one: whats better, to book a nightrain in advance to save money or am I able to buy it at each trainstation office? Ah yes, most of these connection are by night on so called EN trains. Whats the supplement for those trains?
Ok, think thats it for the part from Paris to Istanbul. From Istanbul I'd like to go on to Izmir but the only connection I found was over Ancara and only first class?! Where do I find supplements for turkish railways using a global pass? From Izmir I'd like to travel back over athens, does anyone know whether a ferry goes from the westcoast of turkey to greece?
Thx in advance and thx for all your tips and tricks in this forum! ||

Hi Gilbert.
Aachen - Paris with residency in Germany is only possible with Pass 2 (P2) as your pass doesn't cover all the route: you country of residence is Germany and not included in this trip:
https://rail.cc/en/cologne-brussels-paris-thalys-train/f1471
 Option: use a regional train from Aachen to Liège-Guillemins. The fare it is EUR 11,70.
And from Liège-Guillemins use the Pass 1 (P1) offer.
Some night trains you can book in advance, but traveling in autumn it isn't a big problem booking a night train directly at a station.
Supplements for night trains are listed at the country topics: https://rail.cc/en/countries
Istanbul - Izmir: https://rail.cc/en/istanbul-izmir-train/f3559
