I have just returned from a highly successful trip interrailing with my partner and 3 children aged 15, 12 and 8. We had a very planned trip, we did use couchettes but we stayed in budget accommodation. We visited paris, Munich, germany, Salzburg, Pisa, Rome, Lucca, Venice and the Venetian Riviera, an amazing time was had by all.

Hi,
We are planning to do the same next summer; two parents with two kids 12 and 9. For 4 to 6 weeks or so. Over the summer when everyone else in interailing ... How easy / difficult is it to find accomodation in low budget places ? How long in advance do you suggest we make bookings ? Thanks.

Hi.

If you want to stay in private rooms, I recommend you to book the hostels one or two weeks in advance - but then you are fixed on your route.
Hostels are listed here: [ux]https://rail.shop/hostelworld[/ux]

An option for could be as well to search for some cheap hotels, as kids are often free in the rooms of the parents.

Peter :)

Just some advice if anyone else travels with children: you are sometimes better off finding cheap hotels rather than hostels which charge per night / per person without age distinctions ... Hostelworld hasn't worked for me so far !
