As above, we've made it to Prague so far and we're looking for advice.
We definitely want to get to Budapest from here, but wanted to follow up with Croatia then pass through Bosnia and get to Bulgaria then down to Turkey. We've discovered that there aren't really very many options, and we may be required to go back up to Budapest from Dubrovnik in order to get down to Turkey regardless of whether we want to stop at Sofia or not.
I had hoped to be able to take a train through Bosnia and Sarajevo from Plocy near Dubrovnik, then get to Sofia, but this is apparently unrealistic.
One option is to complete Croatia then get back to Budapest and fly to Burgas in Bulgaria for a very small amount. Problem there is that that's as much as we want to spend, and there are no rail connections from Burgas so it would have to be a bus to either Sofia or straight to Istanbul.
So yeah, summary is that we had hoped on zigzagging through Bosnia to complete the trip but it looks like we have to go around it, with a massive time penalty. Anyone have any suggestions or advice, I'm all ears :)
thnks!

Hi.
Prague-Budapest: https://rail.cc/en/prague-budapest-train/f1468
Or by several direct day connections - should be all free of supplements.
Budapest-Zagreb: https://rail.cc/en/budapest-zagreb-train/f4053
Zagreb-Split: https://rail.cc/en/night-train/zagreb-split-b821/129
Split-Dubrovnik: by a cheap bus. Just ask at the hostel. You do not have to book in advance as you always get a seat.
Dubrovnik-Ploce: as well, ask directly at the hostel. They will help you. Cheap.
Ploce-Mostar-Sarajevo: by train. Check the schedules. Definitely have a stop in Mostar and Sarajevo if you have the time!
Sarajevo-Belgrade: by day train.
Belgrade-Sofia: https://rail.cc/en/belgrade-sofia-night-train/f3410
Or day train.
Sofia-Istanbul: https://rail.cc/en/belgrade-sofia-istanbul-train/f3054
An alternative trip (if you have the time) is from Belgrade to Bar - amazing nature on this journey.

Use the schedule planer for times: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
And check as well the country topics: https://rail.cc/en/countries
