I'm tiny so my rucksack, which is relatively small, is nearly as big as me to begin with, and I don't want to have any trouble carrying it around. I've done a couple of trial packs and practiced walking around my room with it and it's way too heavy, so I need to leave some stuff behind. What should I leave? I'm going for three weeks.This is what I have;

Two pairs of pjs
Pillowcase
sun-hat
Fan (foldout, not electric)
sunglasses (not prescription)
spare glasses in case I break or lose mine
Three sun-dresses
One pair of shorts
One pair of three-quarter lengths
Three tops
Camera
Map
Book of short stories
Lots of socks and underwear (but they're light and I'm going to chuck them as I go along)
Hairbrush
European Rail Timetable Book
travel pillow
sheet
swimming togs
small towel
two facecloths
suncream
phone
ipod
chargers for camera, phone and ipod
adapter
padlock and key
travel documents
travel journal
inhaler
toothbrush
toothpaste
cotton-wool
deodorant
shampoo
face wash
night cream
bronzer
lip-gloss
mirror
book light (to double as torch)

Am wearing a different pair of three-quarter lengths and shirt and sandals and cardigan on the plane.

So what should I cut, and is there anything important I've forgotten (please say no!)?

Fan (foldout, not electric)
fold a paper or your ticket and wave it if you are melting

travel pillow
i use clothes to support my head

If you have an usb charger for mobile and iphone better take them with you as they are just tiny cables and use an ac-to-usb converter. I can't suggest more or less cause you are a woman 8) :os but pack some painkillers and anti-mosquito spray/cream cause they are more usefull than night cream and you can't find them when you need them.. Some plastic bags in order to put dirty clothes ? A waist bag for passports tickets money mobile.

alot of the stuff you say ur taking can be used with other stuff, as mentioned above dont take pjs take some light clothes when i went i slept in my underwear (as its so hot) or wore layers of clothes if its too cold, no need for the extr stuff, if ur taking ur ipod think about maybe putting audio books on that coz books are what weigh you down alot, i did it and i found it much easier tthan taking the actual books, try googling for audio books.

also things like toletries are what i noticed was a problem when i went recently, it was my first trip and i was trial and error for me, i suggest emptying half ur toiletries enough so that u can last a few days or a week with them and buy new toiletries when you are there, it is easier than you think to find a store that will sell basic toiletries such as shampoo and deoderant and when i had got rid of alot of my toiletries like shmpoo it felt so much lighter. also try to combvine toiletries, ur going interrailing not to a prom so you wont need to have all ur make up and special shmpoos like the girls i went with, use 2 in 1 conditioner and use that for cleaning aswell it works great (just rinse whatever u have washed with it well when you are done), make the most of free things aswell, many hotels if u stay in any havve toiletries you can take (dont steal but they may be complimentary).

overall take everything out ur bag and think is there a way i can make this lighter (e.g taking belts off trousers etc and use 1 belt for all of them) and then think about where u are going and if it would be easier to buy things when you are there, also make sure ur bag has good back and shoulder support and it is adjusted to your height and build so that it fits comfortably, having an uncomfortable bag makes it feel heavier.

packing your bbag is also important, obviously u want things in certain places that u might need to access often but thing about weight distribution, having all the light stuff to one side, on top or on the bottom can put pressure on that part of the body, try to split the items based on weight and distribute it evenly so no part of your bag is over weighed.

good luck

yes yes! I could not agree more! It is so surprising to think how much toiletries weigh you down!
On my first backpacking trip for five months, I took two whopping bottles of shampoo and conditioner and soon realised after like 5 days of being away that you can buy it all out there. Also try and get yourself into the travelling 'mentality'. Most people when they're abroad aren't really bothered if they dont use conditioner EVERY DAY or care if they're wearing make up...etc etc. You can do washing almost everywhere you go and for hardly anything so try and take as minimal clothes as you go along. You don't need like 20 pairs of underwear. Even if you are going to chuck them. Don't take so many first of all...plus underwear you can handwash and it'll be dry in half an hour. Dont forget that ;)
