Hi everybody,
I wanted to ask you guys if you know a good way to travel from Belgrad to Sofia. Because we didn't want to be trapped inside a bus, we looked for a route via Nis. There exists a connection from Belgrad to Nis by train, but afterwards we seem to be kind of stuck there. There is a sketchy website that seems to provide Bus connections (NisExpress), but it doesn't seem that trustworthy and the reviews aren't great at all. An other alternative are these "Taxi" Providers, that charge 200 Euros for the transfer. But the best option for us would be a good bus connection or a train of course.
Or should we take the easiest route and get there directly from Belgrad by flixbus?

Hey,
currently Serbian railways are modernising their rail infrastructure. Therefore just two train lines are available as far as I know from their officual site (also available in English). One is Novi Sad -Beograd, the other one is Beograd- Montenegro. Therefore no trains are running between Beograd and Niš or even Sofia. Be aware that FlixBus and GetByBus are just apps that collect information from real bus services, while they do not provide any bus services in this region. So if you so a bus line there, it's also offered by Niš Ekspress. I would not recommend you to rely on reviews, this is a normal bus service, on which people from Serbia, North Macedonia and Bulgaria use in their daily life - like Germans do rely on Deutsche Bahn ;) I would recommend you just to ask yourself whether you prefer going to Sofia over travelling in a bus in general or vice versa. Btw it's likely that I will travel this route in June, so if you still dont know then - ask me about my experience ;)

Wegen deines Nutzernamens und dem Witz über die DB antworte ich mal auf Deutsch. Erstmal danke für die Antwort :), Zugverbindungen Belgrad-Nis sollten verfügbar sein (Ticket Shop der Serbischen Bahnen). Das Ding ist, wir haben nicht so Lust ewig in Bussen zu verbringen, darum dachten wir über Nis sollte möglich sein. Wenn du sagst Nis Ekspress ist so verlässlich wie die DB, dann werden wir vielleicht doch auf das pokern. Wenn du im Juni dran denkst, kannst du mir ja einen Bericht geben über die Route usw. Hey,
gut geraten, ja ich komme aus Deutschland. Ich verstehe die Serbische Bahn, da auch nicht, aber es wird wirklich derzeit modernisiert (wird auch bei den Interrail Länderinfos dargestellt), weswegen derzeit nix fährt. Ich werde vsl. von Skopje nach Beograd mit besagter Buslinie fahren, dann kann ich versuchen an eine Rückmeldung zu denken ;) Ich verbringe natürlich auch nicht gerne Stunden in Bussen, aber ich denke mir, dass das dazugehört zum Kennenlernen anderer Regionen.

Ab Dimitrovgrad bis Sofia gibt es ein Zug täglich, abfahrt 15:15 ab Dimitrovgrad, Ankunft in Sofia 18:38 Uhr. Es sieht nach lanf, aber es ist nicht, da Bulgarien 1 Stunde vor ist als Serbien, dauert die fahrt nicht 3 sondern 2 h. Zwischen Nis und Dimitrovgrad gibt es kein Zug.

Ansonsten die bulgarische Busfirma Karat S hat Bus Belgrad-Sofia montags, mittwochs und samstags. Abfahrt ab Belgrad 14:30 h, Ankunft in Sofia 22:00 h. Das ist ein sehr guter seriöser Anbieter, bin damit mehrmals gefahren. Die professionelste Busfirma in Bulgarien.
