Hello,i'm planning to buy a interrail italy pass for myself ( i live in germany) and a Eurail pass for my mom (she lives in shanghai)
And we will have a 1.5 week italy trip together.

First question: Is there any different when using these two tickets?

Second:
I have looked up trains according to our plan :
Milan->Venice (Eurostar city) 2hours35mins
Venice->Lucca (Eurostar Italia) 4hours2mins
Lucca->Rome (Eurostar Italia) 3hour12mins
Rome->Mialn (Eurostar Italia) 3hours30mins

I checked global pass option in FS site, the supplement cost 10 euro per person which is quiet expensive for a shirt distance like this.
MY QUESTION is that is it necessary for me to buy any SUPPLEMENT for the train above?
Can we just get in the train sit down and show our Interrail/Eurail Pass?

Thank you very much!
Lolo

i used route planner and found the R trains
But the Router planner time table shows different time as FS official site.
And also, FS site doesnt show Regional train price..so i dont know how to decide if use 1day of my italy pass would be worthy
or just buy the ticket directly.

Hi.

If you can book normal tickets to some special discounts (booking early in advance), then this might be the better option. As you already saw, you can book it online at trenitalia.it and pick them up at a rail station in Italy.

If traveling with an InterRail pass, you will have to pay these EUR 10 per EurostarItalia (ES) train you use.
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

Use the Route planer with the option without HST - then the system will list you free REGIONAL (R) trains and free IC trains (you can buy a reservation for these trains for EUR 3, but it is not needed).

Just some examples - there are much more available:

Milano Centrale Dep: 0905 | IC train - free of supplements - reservation possible for EUR 3
Venezia Santa Lucia Arr: 1140

Venezia Santa Lucia Dep: 0858 | IC train - free
Padova Arr: 0924

Padova Dep: 0941 | IC train - free
Prato Arr: 1201

Prato Dep: 1229 | Regional train - free
Lucca Arr: 1330

... and so on ... of course Eurostar Italia trains are much more faster.

So Peter: Even if on the route planner says that IC's are Subject to compulsory reservation we can hop in without it?:)

And if is so, is this valid also in other countries?

Hi.

Yes you travel for free with the IC trains in Italy. The schedule planer is not a special InterRail schedule planer - the notes below the connections are not important for you as IR traveler.
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/italy/it

Concerning other countries just follow these steps:

A: Check the schedule planer - https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
B: Compare it to the supplements section: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
C: Check the country topics for night trains and supplement free alternatives: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train
