Hi everyone,
I am looking to travel from Lecce (south italy) to Munich. According to [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] , one of the best ways of doing this is catching an Espresso night train that leaves Lecce at around 18.00 and arrives in Bolzano around 8.00, and from there catch an Eurocity train to Munich that will get me there at around 12.30. However, I have two questions with this.
I am planning on using a Flexi Pass, and therefore want to use the least number of flexi days possible. Using the 19.00 rule, could I just buy a regular ticket from Lecce to Fasano (where the train stops just after 19.00), and then use my Interrail pass and just pay the supplement for the rest of the journey (and only use 1 travel day)?
Also, I am having trouble with this Eurocity train to Munich; the [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] website shows it, but won't let me book just the supplement. On the other hand, the Trenitalia.it website doesnt even show any of the Eurocity trains, but I know for a fact they exist because they are advertised on the Italian version of the [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] website. Any advice as to how to make that reservation?
Thanks in advance.

Hi.
Okay, then lets play the support for [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] - I would recommend to use a normal Regional train from Lecce to Fasano with a normal fare ticket - it is EUR 5,70.
In Fasano change to the night train to Bolzano.
From there you can make use of the 1900h rule for night trains. Travel until Munich and it counts as only ONE of your travel days.
I recommend you to use the Regional train to Fasano as not all staff in the trains will understand this complicate version of saving a travel day. ;)
To be sure to catch the night train in Fasano, you can use an earlier Regional train.
Lecce Dep: 1745 | by Regional train
Fasano Arr: 1852
Fasano Dep: 1909 | night train
Bolzano/Bozen Arr: 0805
Bolzano/Bozen Dep: 0843 | EC train - should be free of supplements
München Hbf Arr: 1225
The supplement for the night train you can book like described here:
https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation
A seat will be around EUR 3, a 4-bed-couchette about EUR 30.
I definitely recommend a couchette where you can lock the doors.

Thanks for your comprehensive (and very quick) answer Peter!
It's very strange how expensive the couchette supplement is, especially given the reputation that Espresso trains have around Italy. But I guess it's worth the 30euros, not just for safety but also for comfort, not sure I want to be slumped in a seat for 14 hours.
If it does turn out there is a supplement to pay on the Eurocity train, I'm sure I can just ask at Bolzano station or maybe just pay on the train to Munich.
Cheers on this great forum,
Roberto

Hi Roberto!
I have the same information - no supplement for the EC train. But please let us know if there would be something to pay. Thanks. ;)
